Public Schools - Indoctrination Centers

if they snuck it in then you would not have heard of it
if it were in the curriculim mandated by the state then it would be in the minutes you already had
if you were a liberal then you might have some bias which could make it hard to spot

Someone needs to do some better research to show you where and how organizations like this one did what they did becuse right now too much is conjecture. Which does not mean that you might not be like the proverbial monkeys

I view this issue from the inside. I taught in the public schools for 38 years, and yet, never heard of the "rethinking schools" organization. I never saw, used, or even heard of their math materials. We had a math book that we were supposed to cover, with only so much classroom time to do it. Bringing in something else was out of the question.

Now, if adding fractions, doing long division, identifying types of triangles, and learning the difference between variables and constants is "liberal indoctrination", then I suppose we were indoctrinating them.

Well I did a little poking around on the Rethinking Schools website. I used their search feature to see what they were touting as their successes.

When prop 227 passed in California restricting bilingual educati0n did you hear anyone saying that test scores when up as a result? Well as a teacher in that area how could you not have been aware of the arguments pro and con? Did you hear any of the counter-aguments that the test scores went up for reasons unrelated to prop 227 or that there was no evidence linking the decrease in bilingual education to the increase in test scores? Unless you lived under a rock you did.

And do you know where those counter-arguments originated and who was advancing them? We think you can guess.

Lets also look at this one other way. We have all heard how some crazy liberals want to recreate Columbus to be a monster instead of an explorer. Who were those crazy liberals and just how effective were they (besides all of us having heard of this movement. well according to the author of the book Rethinking Columbus (note how the word rethinking is there in the title of the book and also in the name of that organization Rethinking Schools. That is no co-oincidence).

The author of rethinking columbus is none other than the editor of rethinking schools - Bill Bigelow. This is what he says about the impact of his book:

" We went out on a limb and printed 30,000 copies. Much to our surpriseand delightthat first edition of Rethinking Columbus sold 1,000 copies a day, seven days a week, for three straight months.
Twenty years later, Rethinking Columbus — now in its second edition — has sold over 300,000 copies, and has transformed how teachers approach the so-called discovery of America."

Proof that the indoctrination of school children has taken place at least 300, ooo times multiplied by the number of kids in a class that used each book purchased. If each class that owns five copies of the book exposes all 30 kids to it over a period of ten years that is quite a large number.

Of course I was aware of proposition 227 the "English for the Children" initiative. When it passed, I was assigned to a bilingual class, and so that proposition changed my job assignment.

I'm also aware of the different sorts of classes taught under the generic term "bilingual education", and that some of them are based on sound research, while others are grossly flawed. There isn't enough space or time to adequately discuss bilingual education in an internet forum.

What this issue has to do with "liberal indoctrination" is what escapes me.

all you guys show us individuals acting on their own bias, no sign of the vast organized system you claim.

nobody argues that such individuals exist. I suspect there are also individuals daring to present an opposite viewpoint. and then there is everything in between.

so, because the adminustration makes stuff up its ok for everyone to do the same ? come on tex...
What is being made up here?

The Federal Government .... especially this Federal Government has NO business in Education. C-Scope and Common Core both have some very alarming trends.

There is very little doubt by this time that this Administration is socialist if not full blown communist in it's actions, policies, and the historical figures that are admired.

Indoctrination of children has always been a socialist/communist/progressive agenda. These "individuals acting on their own bias" are acting within an "organized system" and the demands for the full implementation of these "organized systems" are factual.

Would you deny that these bias exist within our Universities as well?

if its so obvious it would be easy to demonstrate it to be so and you have not. universities are a meaningless tangent.

Look who else is championing common core:

Jeb Bush Defends Common Core At ALEC Meeting

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush once again defended the Common Core education standards in front the American Legislative Exchange Council's highly-protested annual meeting in Chicago Friday.
"There are critics of Common Core Standards from both ends of the ideological spectrum. I know there are some in this room," Bush said, according to prepared remarks provided to The Huffington Post. The meeting was closed to the press.

It seems it's a power grab supported by both parties.
