Extremism

You realize that there is nothing new about "secret prisons" don't you ? That stuff goes back to the Cold War.

Lincoln really was the first to significantly subvert the Constitution so yes, nothing new there.

Are you suggesting that one of the previous governments has done what Always was proposing in his 're-education' program?

Possibly...or are the middle of the road Republicans just afraid to talk 'fairness/in an equal relaxed attitude/wait & see about our newly elected president' for fear that these LOUD REDUNDANT 'RIGHT WINGED NUT JOBS' posters around here will regale them with radical comments & INSULTS.

I've read where some of the REAL WRITTEN IN STONE REPUBLICANS have been called 'LEFTISTS' because they disagree with a couple of newbies to this site...{NEW WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS}.

To me and my Independent POV...the hate and vitriol that permeates this country/community forum is just amazing:eek: I fully understand the frustration/pain/agony that most are feeling {I too have felt some serious financial set backs/unemployment/reduced work hours}...but the work that it is going to take to FIX the plethora of problems is going to take longer then just 'an overnight band-aide'...but the volume of the WHINE/ANGST is becoming deafening to the EAR!

PLC = Pathetic Liar Continually !!!, now you know!

Is that an insult to my screen name, or is it supposed to be an answer to ASPCA's post you quoted?

It seems ASPCA thinks you are a "written in stone republican" while Always thinks your an Obama worshiping leftist. And if you think that's funny, Always thinks that Bunz and I are "political twins", that I love Obama and the radical Left.

We need forum-reform. :)

That is funny, in a twisted sort of way.

The mods have been discussing forum reform. What would you suggest? PM me if you need to mention specific members.

Gee Gen...you really need to learn to follow threads...my post had nothing at all to do with PLC1...but as 'ALWAYS' pulls posts at whim and shreds the topics into chaos...you've once again ASSumed too much

Taking back one 'PEARL' now you are short a complete set ;)

Yeah, I think Bunz would get a kick out of that too.

We have been discussing that in the private forum, the first line of my sig is aimed at people like you who are members of the group. ;)

You had quoted PLC1 in the post where you made that comment, so please forgive me for misunderstanding the reference.
Certainly...I just utilized the part of his posted question that I was making a feeble attempt to answer {my post #2}...YOU ARE FORGIVEN and you do get your 'PEARL' back ;)

Looking through the latest posts on this forum, it occurs to me that House of Politics is beginning to reflect the voters of this great nation in that we're becoming increasingly polarized. Either we think that the Democrats are the essence of evil, or that the Republicans are. Either this is the greatest free nation on Earth, or we're sliding into "Marxism", "Communism" or "Fascism", never just implementing policies with which we find some fault.

Reasoned debate is being supplanted by ranting and verbal assaults on the person with whom we disagree, and not just on this forum, but in the larger arena of national discourse as well.

The internet and the news media give us the impression that politicians and voters are polarized. But I don't think polarization is really the reality.

The anonymity of the net gives naturally belligerent people a way to be belligerent without risking having their faces bashed in. They can say things on the net that would be too cowardly to ever say in person. Libertarians are the ones that are most guilty of this but their number on the net is far out of proportion to their number in the general population. This gives the un-initiated a false view of left-right politics (since libertarians on the net pass themselves off as conservatives) so the net takes on a polarization that is more severe than what really exists in the general population.

Polarization breeds controversy and sensationalism and the news media feeds off of both controversy and sensationalism to sell news, i.e., make money. So naturally the news media wants as much polarization as it can get. The news media has a vested financial interest in not reporting reality.

The lightning rod for extremism of all kinds is the president.

This is nothing new. FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan were either completely loved or totally despised both within their lifetimes and in subsequent history. The president has always served as a lightening rod for partisan politics; it has nothing to do with any polarization that supposedly exists today.

Liberalism and conservatism alike are ill defined, and tend to refer to those evil ones who disagree with one's point of view, those with whom there can be no compromise or points of agreement, either the "other team", or perhaps even the essence of evil, bent on destroying our nation.

This is because most of the people who endeavor to define the terms have a vested interest in how they are defined (politicians, academicians, news reporters and internet forum members). I was a conservative before I had ever heard of the term (in 9th grade civics class). To some extent your political ideology is innate. You are what you are without having any real say in the matter.

Talk about polarization. You are a chief example of it.

OH, I think YOU are correct , The American VOTER has finnaly awakened and our Nation is surely DIVIDED.

Really? How much more divided was this country in 1860 and 1861- when certain states attempted to leave the Union just because they lost an election? By history’s standards we are currently in another era of good feelings.

Amazing how you manage to label yourself right into that collective group of the "RIGHT WINGED NUT JOBS"...yet turn a conversation into a topic about PORN when it suits your deprivation and you can't handle the topic matter. You do seem well versed in that main redundant topic though...PORN = reference FLAJA and he'll steer you to the FACTS! ;)

Again your hostility is a demonstration of the polarization that this thread complains about. You are here only to argue and browbeat; you have no interest in rational discussion. You automatically assume that any conservative must be a “right-wing nut job” so discussion with you is always impossible.

The net does give people the chance to say things that would tend to bring a negative response if done in person, that's so. One of the great things about it is that we can say what is on our mind without worry about alienating people, or, if we do alienate someone, we can subsequently ignore them.

As for Libertarians being liberals, that is only true if you define conservatism as authoritarianism. Libertarians share ideals of both ends of the unidimensional left to right continuum that dominates some people's thinking.

Polarization breeds controversy and sensationalism and the news media feeds off of both controversy and sensationalism to sell news, i.e., make money. So naturally the news media wants as much polarization as it can get. The news media has a vested financial interest in not reporting reality.

Good point. sensationalism and controversy do sell papers and advertising space.

This is nothing new. FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan were either completely loved or totally despised both within their lifetimes and in subsequent history. No, it may not be anything new. It seems more pronounced than it has been in the past. Maybe that is just my perception.

It does seem quite pronounced on this board, more so than on other forums.

So, political ideology, like sexual orientation, is something one is born with? Now, that's a unique idea.
