Mennonite couple files counter-lawsuit in fear of being forced to host same-sex weddings

A Mennonite couple in Iowa who declined to host a same-sex wedding at their business has filed a counter-lawsuit against the state’s Civil Rights Commission, fearing that the agency will make them pay financial damages and host the events.

In August, Dick and Betty Odgaard, who operate The Gortz Haus Gallery in Grimes, declined a request from Lee Stafford and his partner, Jared, to host a same-sex wedding.

"They did so because their religion forbids them from personally planning, facilitating or hosting wedding ceremonies not between one man and one woman," the counter-lawsuit says

Christian Mom Scores Big Victory After School Banned Daughter’s ‘God’ Assignment

Officials at Lucy Elementary School in Memphis, Tenn., have reversed course after a teacher banned a 10-year-old student from writing about God for a class assignment.

The school decided to accept and grade Erin Shead’s work after her mother, Erica, spoke out to media and after the Liberty Institute, a conservative legal group, got involved, WREG-TV reported.

Erin received a 100 percent on her work.

The Secretary of the Army has ordered military leaders to halt all briefings on extremist organizations that labeled Evangelical Christian groups as domestic hate groups. The shutdown comes just four days after I reported exclusively about a briefing at Mississippi’s Camp Shelby that labeled the American Family Association as a domestic hate group.
