The assumption is that the Biblical character known as "God" knows the future. He exists outside of time (and also space, because time and space are inseparable).

Of course, if this were true, he would never have put a mystery tree in the Garden of Eden or added a talking snake, because he would have already known what would happen. And of course, since he is omnipotent, he would have been able to change the situation so that Adam and Eve would never have been tempted.

He also would have figured out a way to destroy most of the human race without a flood. A virus and an antidote to it are certainly not beyond the powers of an omnipotent being.

If the Tower of Babel was too close to Heaven for divine comfort, then obviously when Godless Russians sent up the first satellite, he'd have slapped it down, along with the rest of the estimated 4500 satellites currently in orbit around the Earth.

And no reason to cause Jesus to have a really unpleasant weekend on the cross, since all an omnipotent God needs to to to forgive people is to say "you are forgiven". No sacrifice is necessary.
