Oh, well, if Penn and Teller said it, then it stands proven.

Say, steveox, are you really trying to prove a negative? Go back a few posts on this same thread, and see what was shown about the difficulty of such an enterprise.

Prove it Heaven is like this

What is heaven then?

The crux of the matter is that no one knows. No one knows if there is a God. No one knows if God cares about us. No one knows if there is a Heaven or a Hell. And this lack of knowing frightens many people, so they decide to pretend that they know, and they pretend so hard that they forget that they really DON'T know. One of the reasons that many religious people are so absolute in their claims of KNOWING is to cover up the fact that they don't know, it comforts them to believe and some of them will even resort to violence to protect their comfortable pretending.

I think there is a creative force in the Universe, but I don't know for sure. Experiences like being out of my body lead me to suspect that we are more than the sum of our physical parts, we are a gestalt and our "self" may not cease to exist when our physical body dies. It'll be an interesting journey to make.

An interesting journey? To Nothing?? except total darkness?

The essence of a journey is discovery, I haven't been there so I don't know what's waiting for me there. You have seen blackness, perhaps you need to go farther down the road to get into the light. No one knows, that's why we have so many religious theories.

Think of it as being an adventure, when you die you get to find out what's next.

I hope its reincarnation. Cause my next life i wanna do it right.I hope my parents are very wealthy in my next life and i like to be born beautiful with athletic ability so i can play professonal sports.

Good luck on that. You might find it more productive to hope that you will have the wisdom to see what's right and the courage to do it.

Hope is cheap, indulge yourself.

What is heaven then?

I don't know, and neither does anyone else. When we get there, I'll try to find you. I have quite a list of atheists to find, just so I can say, "I told you so."

If I'm right, and there is a life after this one, then I can have the satisfaction of saying I told you so. If you're right, and there is nothing, then you will never know you were right.

So what you are saying, is that all us Atheists should believe in God, solely for our future gratification? What your suggesting, is that a rational person can knowingly will himself to believe a proposition for which he has no evidence?

Do you understand, I would have to lie to myself every day, about everything I see in the world, to even pretend that there was a God.

I suspect no one ever acquires his religious beliefs in this way (Pascal certainly didn't). But even if some people do, who could be so foolish as to think that such beliefs are likely to be true?
