Technicaly speaking marching in the band counts as half a PE credit and therefore we don't have to take two years of PE considering we rather take band all four years without having to take the required two credits of PE.
Marching in the band only counts as half a credit because marching seasons starts in June or July and ends in November and weddon't march all year long because then we move on to concert season.
We can tiethe color gaurd down because they have their own winter gaurd season.

Why not add more classes in school? Like political discussion and religion debates? Classes to teach you law and how to obey them? and why not a reality class? It teaches you the consequences in life like what happens to you want you smoke,do drugs and drink alcohol and other subjects that has consequences. Like eating too much what happens you don't speak properly to some people. Cussing and using racial names to the wrong people. Those aren't a waste of time.

Teaching practical classes are one of the best things they could teach kids. Here are some things I was taught in public school, starting in Jr. high, that helped me when I became an adult.

Nutrition, balanced meals
How to cook
How to make a piece of clothing from scratch, using a pattern and how to operate a sewing machine.
How to make a living budget
How to balance a check book, banking
How to drive a car
How to take care of a car
Making a book shelf
How to use household tools
How to take care of a baby/small child

Some kids today can't even do something as simple as addressing an envelope. It's mind blowing to me how unprepared kids are. They have no imagination either.

Another thing I've seen lacking is how one approaches a problem or project. Too many are clueless about how to go from concept to finish. They don't even know where to start using basic logic.

Some scientists claim music helps people learn other subjects. It trains the brain. I certainly don't think it's a waste of public school money, but rather the opposite. Unfortunately, guys who are too much into classical music are accused of being gay, and that's ridiculous. I think more guys should pursue the classical study of music.

I would definitely say music is a subject in education. Think about this in music kids are reading the songs, they are learning about memorizing. These are things that are taught in main stream education, and can be picked up here without a kid even realizing that they are learning these fundamentals. The sad thing though is that one of the curriciums that is constantly being cut by schools due to budget cuts is music, which is wrong in my opinion, but schools tend to think its not needed.

Most things which lead to money are not a waste of time. Take algebra for instance, a lot of people say it is of no use to them. Well, it's of use to people who are engineers. However, even if your not in mathematical profession, you can still tutor math. In other words, you can still make a living from it. Anyhow, the same idea applies to music or anything else. Music instruction is in high demand compared to many occupations.
