Marijuana U.S.A.

"Former Nebraska state senator John Kuehn has filed a second lawsuit seeking to nullify two voter-approved medical cannabis access initiatives.

Late last month, a district court judge
rejected another legal challenge that sought to invalidate the measures. That case is now being considered by the state Supreme Court. Kuhn is a party to that litigation as well.

The latest suit argues that state officials
cannot legally regulate medical cannabis because marijuana remains federally prohibited. The suit alleges, “In November 2024, taxpayers paid for two statewide votes which together sought to obtain an objective that was unconstitutional, unlawful, and impossible: the legalization of the manufacturing, dispensing, and profiting off marijuana products for so-called medical purposes.”

Voters overwhelmingly approved the two ballot proposals: Measure 437 and Measure 438."

"Although the price per gram of cannabis continued to drop in Connecticut, the state’s retailers sold $17.6 Million worth of adult-use products in November.

That’s the second-best month since the state began recreational marijuana sales in January 2023, Connecticut Inside Investigator reported.

A record $
18 Million worth of adult-use products were sold this past August, according to Inside Investigator, citing data from Connecticut’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP)."

"The overwhelming majority of Americans say that marijuana ought to be legal for either medical or adult use, according to nationwide polling data compiled by the politically conservative-leaning think tank, the Manhattan Institute.

The results are
consistent with those of prior surveys, including a March 2024 Pew poll which also determined that only about ten percent of U.S. adults support a blanket policy of cannabis criminalization."

"Bernalillo County (population: 672,000) commissioners voted unanimously to revise the county’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy to remove cannabis “when used legally off-duty for medical or recreational purposes” from its definition of illegal drugs. As a result, most public employees will no longer be subject to either pre-employment or random workplace testing for cannabis."

"Newborns who test positive for prenatal marijuana exposure are at no increased risk of suffering from either child abuse or neglect, according to an analysis of hospital birth records and subsequent Child Protective Services (CPS) investigations published in the journal Child Abuse & Neglect.

Investigators at the University of Michigan assessed records from over 35,000 births. They found that Black babies
are disproportionately tested for drugs – a finding that is consistent with prior data – but that they are no more likely than other newborns to suffer from neglect."

"Patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy respond favorably to the use of botanical cannabis and other cannabis-based products, according to the findings of a systematic review published in The Journal of Hand Surgery.

“Of the included studies,
79 percent showed improvement in neuropathic pain following treatment with a cannabinoid,” investigators reported. “Improvements in secondary outcomes such as sleep quality, anxiety, sensory testing, and quality of life were also noted in several studies, consistent with prior literature. Most reported side effects were mild and well-tolerated." running-around-smiley-emoticon[1].gif

Consumption Lounges Take Off

"After years of trying to launch a successful consumption-lounge model, cannabis hospitality will finally hit its stride in 2025, predicts MJBizDaily reporter Chris Casacchia, who covers marijuana retail and brands.

We’re going to see some significant movement and growth in markets across the United States for
consumption spaces – especially here in Vegas,” Casacchia said.

“There’s probably at least a
dozen in the pipeline here in Nevada,” he said, adding that lawmakers in California and Massachusetts made moves in the past year or so to create regulations that would help consumption venues succeed – although only California was successful.

“It’s going to provide
huge allowance
$ for consumption and microbusinesses in California to sell drinks, food, wholesaling, music and events for those in the consumption space,” he said."
