#10: State-Legal Cannabis Market Has Largely Eliminated U.S. Demand for Mexican-Grown Marijuana

"Seizures of Mexican-grown marijuana have fallen 98 percent over the past decade, according to data published on the US Customs and Border Protection website. The production and exportation of Mexican-grown cannabis has also declined significantly."

"The Drug Enforcement Administration failed to publicly provide reporting data in 2024 regarding the total number of marijuana seizures and arrests made by federal agents and others participating in the Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program.

The
DCE/SP began funding cannabis eradication programs in Hawaii and California in 1979. Annual reports summarizing the programs activities are archived on the DEA’s website for the years 2011 to 2022. The last time the agency publicly released an updated report was in May 2023.

Marijuana crop seizures by DEA and their partners fell nearly 33 percent between 2011 and 2020, before rising again in 2021 and 2022. Marijuana-related arrests by federal agents also declined sharply during this time, from 8,501 in 2011 to fewer than 5,000 in 2020, before also rising in 2021.

NORML’s Deputy Director Paul Armentano criticized the agency’s failure to publicly release updated data on its website. He said, “At a time when voters and their elected officials nationwide are re-evaluating state and federal marijuana policies, it is inconceivable that government agencies are unwilling to provide data on the estimated co$t$ and $cope of federal marijuana prohibition in America.”

The laughing-"breaks" are the real deal....as any experienced person can easily recognize!!!!

"Nicholson told Time Magazine in 1970 that he "smoked about 155 joints" during the multiple takes of a scene in which the two bikers introduce his character, George, to marijuana. The real acting challenge for him proved to be remembering, after all those joints, to play George as if he was clear-headed at the start of the scene. "Keeping it all in mind stoned, and playing the scene straight, and then becoming stoned – it was fantastic," he said."

"Law enforcement officers may not initiate a warrantless search of a motor vehicle based solely on an alert from a specially trained police dog, according to a ruling by judges on Florida’s 5th District Court of Appeal.

Judges determined that
canines cannot distinguish between cannabis-specific products that the state has deemed legal (e.g., medical cannabis and hemp-derived products) and those that it has not."

"The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration rejected a September request from Colorado officials to participate in the United States’ historic marijuana rescheduling process.

That’s
one example of the “bias” that should disqualify the agency from overseeing the hearings, according to claims made in a filing submitted Monday to the DEA’s chief administrative law judge, John Mulrooney II.

The
decision to exclude Colorado, where sales of adult-use marijuana began more than a decade ago, but include authorities from states without regulated cannabis such as Nebraska and Tennessee demonstrates why the agency should be removed from the proceedings, the filing claims."

"Ohio recreational cannabis retailers recorded $242.2 Million in sales in 2024only five months after the state launched its adult-use market.

The state’s adult-use operators sold 4 million-plus units of manufactured products and 32,487 pounds of plant material sold through Dec. 28, the Ohio Capital Journal reported, citing data from the Department of Commerce Division of Cannabis Control.

Ohio has 124 dual-use marijuana stores that can sell both medical and recreational marijuana.

Moratoriums, banning the sale of adult-use products, were in place in more than 120 Ohio municipalities as of Dec. 19, according to data from Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law."

That's cool....as-long-as those municipalities never benefit from any o' those sales-taxes generated by pot sales!!!
