(Dis) United $tate$
By Jorge Ramos Ávalos
(OCtober 28th., 2012).- The country is divided. Also my neighborhood. I just went to run, and I found a lot of posters in front of houses, backing Obama & Biden or Romney &Ryan- Blue or red. IN almost thirty years I've been living in the United States,, I do not remember seeing to such polarized election, so aggresive without any hope
I never thought seeying in the U. S: the sane division and personal Wars I just saw om Mexico and Be Venezuela wfore the electoions. ON July, @Mexico was divided between those who backed the Institutional Revolutionary Party candidate, Enrique Peña Nieto, and those who rejected with feelings very close to hatred. And in Venezuela, the same story At the end of october, . people were identified as pro Chavez or against him, whtout any mddle terms. And as in Venezuela or Mexico, in the States the political and ideological divisionsare so deep, that the future isn’t a promising one They are the (Dis)united States .
The next U.S. president will win the raffle of the tiger. Before a totally partisan Congress today, I do not see how Obama or Romney can convince lawmakers to leave their intransigence and cooperate on several pressing matters
To me, it's no secret- it is essential to find a solution for the 11 million undocumented immigrants and those who will come after them. It's amazing that the most powerful country in the world tretas in such inhuman way the vulnerable and poor. Obama and Romney are not alone. To reform immigration laws are needed votes Democrats and Republicans in Congress. And there are none.
But that is not all. The primary issue in this country is the lack of jobs. There are 23 million unemployed and people who have stopped looking for work. This crisis dragged it from the end of George W. Bush’s presidency . Obama says he has done as much as possible from the government to avoid an economic depression. Romney insists that was not enough and that he has a different plan, relying more on private industry.
The reality is that, contrary to what many think, no president is superman. Creating jobs requires cooperation, political alliances, serious and long negotiations. None of that it is a surplus right now in AMERICA.
It worries me that the government is spending more than what receives in taxes. And my children, yours and our generations will have to pay that debt someday. The basic principle of any family to survive -not to spend more than your income - it's something that neither @TheDemocRATS nor @GOP are agreeing to, and that can lead us into a downfall, just like the ancient Roman Empire
Both parties also aren´t changing laws to avoid massacres, one alter another. The killings in Columbine and in a movie theater are added to many other slaugthers, which being so frecuent are no Longer a news However, , Obama, Romney and the Congress won´t even dare to propose a limit in the use of weapons that work well in a war bot not in the hands if a neighbor Theis is one of the gfreatest AMERICA’S taboos
This is our daily war ( As the bread in The Lord’s Prayer) But there are others who also must avoid outside our borders. Sometimes it seems we have not learned the lessons of the Iraq war, which started for the wrong reasons and caused the death of 4.486 U.S. soldiers and over 105,000 Iraqi civilians (according IraqBodyCount.com). President Bush refused to allow UN inspectors to finish their work in Iraq in 2003 and began a war looking for weapons of mass destruction that never existed. We can not repeat this fatal error.
Of course we`ve got to avoid Iran from developingnuclear weapons, The future of Israel and the region depends on it. But before starting another war we must exhaust all diplomatic options and economic sanctions. That takes a consensus between the two parties, the Congress and the White House. This consensus does not exist now.
AMERICA is in one of those historical transitions that are consolidated as military and economic superpower or to fall gradually to the levels of all other countries. But to remain the indispensable nation, as Democrats and Republicans want, it is urgent to solve the problems of employment, migration, deficits, wars and weapons possession. It's not easy.
Whoever wins, Obama or Romney-opponents will need more than ever. The strength and leadership of this country lies in their union at key moments, from independence until after the terrorist acts of September 11, 2001. But today, in the midst of the election campaign, it seems that we are talking about two different countries. Just go outside or turn on the TV to see it.
