THE DECEASED WITH @EPN (FIRST YEAR)

The government of Mexican President @EPN is, in many ways, just like that of its predecessor @Felipe CaldeRON:

Many dead and few results.

You gave him a year and it has not changed anything in Mexico. Mexicans continue to die, the drug war is being lost, the self-defense groups and drug traffickers operate with impunity, and there is a clear course to reduce drug violence.

Now, at this point, we should know exactly what was the #EPN plan and strategy to prevent many drug-related killings. But the only thing that is clear is that government policy in the fight against drugs has been based on the silence believing that by not talking about the issue publicly, it will diminish in importance. It is the attitude of the ostrich, that hide the head and did not see anything.

The communication policy of the Presidency is: do not talk about drug trafficking and deceased. The massive media, therefore, report less about the issue. And that gives you a space to the government to maneuver and gain time. But this strategy has a problem: the dead are still there, as real as on a novel written by Juan Rulfo.

A year later, the honeymoon with @EPn should be finished. It Should be required with concrete results. But journalists and politicians, for various reasons, followed by caravan and pretend not deeing anything. There are days of mass graves and other killings, almost all, with a clear absence of the State. Police and soldiers simply could not do anything against drug dealers.

Here are the odds of failure. In the first 11 months of government Peña Nieto (December 2012 to October 2013) there were 17,068 murders, ie, an average of 1,551 intentional homicides per month. That nowhere in the world is a success.

There are more deceased dead in those first 11 months of Peña Nieto than in 2009 (which were 16,118 murders). In this issue, Peña Nieto 2013 is just like the Calderon 2009. There is no obvious difference.

For the avoidance of doubt in the veracity of the numbers, you can check the data in the National System of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior (here is the link http:// bit.ly/gy5Dtz). This includes only complaints to prosecutors. There are many more deaths, that go unreported.

Peña Nieto's government says things are improving. They are playing with numbers and words. What happens is comparing 17,068 murders they had in the first 11 months of @eon ‘s government with the 20,010 murders that had Calderon in his last 11 months. Yes, in this comparison there is a 15 percent improvement. But in reality, there is no any change in strategy to suggest that he is winning the battle against he drug dealers. And still too many dead.

"Mexico is clear example that the military effort against drugs do not work," said in an interview Pedro Abramovay, former Secretary of Justice of Brazil, a member of the Open Society Foundation, advisor to several presidents and one of the voices more aware of the fight against drugs in the world. "@EPN speech Speaking with Peña Nieto changed but it is unclear what is the alternative to #FelipeCaldeRON’sh model.
Same criticisim is made by Human Rights Watch about @EPN He said that the priority was to reduce violence , "wrote the director, Jose Miguel Vivanco , but " so far has not defined a specific plan on how to achieve that goal. "

It is fair to give all the presidents time to define their strategies to adopt plans and to execute their ideas. But after a year you have to demand results . Fifty-one murders per day , on average, is the best thing to do Peña Nieto. It is a terrible record .

Peña Nieto came to power with a serious legitimacy deficit . Millions of Mexicans believe that cheating and fraud won the 2012 elections . Therefore, the only way to vindicate those Mexicans is governing well .

The fiscal, education and energy reforms are essential to good government . Mexico is a country of enormous gap between rich and poor. That we must face . But while many Mexicans continue dying, it`s impossible to improve the image of Peña Nieto , even if you comb the tuft in photographs .
