Can Taxing The Rich Save The U.S. Economy?

Flat tax. A dollar is a dollar and they should all be taxed the same regardless of how much you make. The left talks about fairness and nothing could be fairer than that. Just because someone was smarter and planed their lives and investested their money, they shouldn't be punished because others didn't.

Here is the Democrats version of Aesop's "The Ant and the Grasshopper"

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. Americais stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Rev. Jeremiah Wright then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake. Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ants food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

Well im paying too much and taxes is taking a chunk out of my wallet. Like Sales taxes and Gas Taxes making things expensive. Why dont the Rich start paying more? THEY CAN AFFORD IT. Look at Hollywood and Sports celebrities. Theyre not being hurt not one god damn bit!

Well theyre not paying their fair share. Mitt Romney is a good example of that when he only paid 15% in income taxes while the rest of us paid 22- 3o% to the IRS!

The problme is not that he only paid 15 % but that we paid 22 to 30. Lower every income tax to 15% then eliminate it. By the way, the rules on taxation were followed equally by all of us - all of us only paid 15 % on our investments and all of us paid more in earned income. Anyone can reduce their tax burden to about 15% by having no earned income and only investment income.

The fact that only the rich can afford to live off of investment income alone is not a demonstration that Romney did anything wrong but an example of how the system needst o be changed.

Thats my point. People have to work with a salary pay too much. Wealthy people just buy corporations and dont pay as much. Just like Democrats and Republicans screw with the Middle class. When Republicans promise tax cuts they only cut em for the wealthy just like George Bush did. When Democrats promise to raise taxes on the wealthy they raise em on everybody just like Bill Clinton did.

Buying corporations is actually hard work.

People paying income on their salaries are paying too much but in no way does that mean that people paying taxes on investments are paying too little.

The Bush tax cuts were not only for the wealthy.

It is not as simple as dems raise taxes on everybody. Sometimes taxes are actually lowered but the rich get loopholes and then everyone else gets hidden taxes like inflation.

Probably taxing on what one spends is a good idea--some variant of that.

Remove all loop-holes.
Let people create loop-holes in their lifestyle.

Isn't that exactly what rom did when he cut earned income in favor of investment income?

The dems will NEVER go for a tax on spending as it is considered to be regressive, the opposite of progressive.

I don;t think there can be a perfect tax system as it will ALWAYS be either too regressive or too progressive or have too many loopholes or be too rigid... But whatever problems it will have the larger it is the larger the problems. The first thing we need to do is have a small tax burden.
