Australia will see a vote for Prime Minister on Monday. Unlike the USA we do not vote directly for our leader but the leader of the party with the majority of seats becomes Prime Minister. Our present Prime Minister Julia Gillard is being challenged by ex PM and Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd. while Kevin Rudd is more popular with the people he is expected to lose as the vote is only taken by Labor Members of Parliament. With them he is seen as arrogant and they do not want to work with him
This is a man who steer Australia out of the global recession. As A Chinese speaking Foreign Minister brought both China and the USA into the same Alliance. Making USA concentrate more on the Pacific and Asia.
Unfortunately at the Next election Labor will be thrown out and the Conservative Tony Abbot will be elected. Labor has more chance with Rudd but will be stuck with Gillard. The attacks by both candidates , like the Republican primaries in the USA , have been very personal and harmful. In the end it is hard to see Labor united again, to defeat Abbott.
