Rep. Giffords is out of surgery and in critical condition with a single gunshot wound to the head, hospital says.

Palin "target" shot in Tucson

First, some history

"...With an endorsement record that now rivals those of many established Washington politicians, Sarah Palin has re-launched her "Take Back the 20" campaign. Its aim — pun intended — is to unseat Democratic incumbents who supported last year's health care reform package H.R. 3200, often referred to by Republicans as "Obamacare."

Earlier this year, Palin drew sharp criticism for featuring a map on her web page riddled with crosshairs targeting Democrats in vulnerable congressional districts.

Tucson's Gabrielle Giffords is among the 20 Democratic incumbents whom Palin intends to use for target practice.

Giffords and her Republican challenger Jesse Kelly are now neck and neck, according to the latest polls. Palin's endorsement of Kelly came as a surprise to many.

Kelly made headlines last month for a highly critical, off-the-record statement about the former governor-turned-celebrity: "Endorsing people because they're going to win, because you want to be on the right side of a Senator, is not the kind of political courage that's going to take this country back."

Despite Kelly's obvious aversion to Palin and her brand of politics, he has accepted her endorsement with open arms. "We are honored to have the support of Governor Sarah Palin," Kelly's campaign said in a written statement.

Kelly's photo is now prominently displayed on Palin's "Take Back the 20" website, just below the crosshair-covered map titled "We've diagnosed the problem. Help us prescribe the solution," a chilling innuendo..."

and now

"..U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was critically wounded Saturday in a shooting at a Tucson, Arizona, grocery store in which at least 11 other people were injured, officials said.

Darci Slaten, a spokeswoman for University Medical Center in Tucson, said Giffords was undergoing surgery Saturday afternoon for a gunshot wound to the head.

A federal judge from Arizona was among the 11 others shot in the incident, a law enforcement source told CNN.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. MST, Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jason Ogan said..."

Re: Palin "target" shot in Tucson

...wait...there's more

Giffords’ 2010 Congressional opponent Jesse Kelly held a June 12 gun event that was billed as follows on the Pima County Republican website:

Get on Target for Victory in November Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office Shot a fully automatic M15 with Jesse Kelly

Kelly’s website has apparently scrubbed the event , but here is the account from the Arizona Daily Star:

Jesse Kelly, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to be bothered in the least by the Sarah Palin controversy earlier this year, when she released a list of targeted races in crosshairs, urging followers to “reload” and “aim” for Democrats. Critics said she was inciting violence.

He seems to be embracing his fellow tea partier’s idea. Kelly’s campaign event website has a stern-looking photo of the former Marine in military garb holding his weapon. It includes the headline: “Get on Target for Victory in November. Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly.”

Sarah Palin's PAC Puts Gun Sights On Democrats She's Targeting In 2010

"Palin's Facebook page now carries a map featuring 20 gun sights, one for each of the Democrats targeted this year by her political action committee SarahPAC" - sadly one of them was Gabrielle Giffords...

I quote
If you're worried that violent video games may make kids prone to bad behavior; if you think that mysogenic and homophobic rap lyrics are dangerous to society; if you believe that a nipple in a Superbowl halftime show is a threat to our moral fabric - then surely you should also fear that the way public and media figures have framed political participation with shooting gallery imagery is just as potentially lethal.

People trying to relate Palin's "crosshairs" with this shooting incident, are despicably desperate. They make me sick.

Of course they do when the easily suggested american public take a little too well to the propaganda duck cover and avoid all consequences.

Go visit the shooter's Youtube channel before it's taken down:

And note the favorite books list:

"Books:I had favorite books: Animal Farm, Brave New World, The Wizard Of OZ, Aesop Fables, The Odyssey, Alice Adventures Into Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, Peter Pan, To Kill A Mockingbird, We The Living, Phantom Toll Booth, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Pulp,Through The Looking Glass, The Communist Manifesto, Siddhartha, The Old Man And The Sea, Gulliver's Travels, Mein Kampf, The Republic, and Meno."

Not a right winger, whatever he was. Check out his videos, watch 'em all. Found this on another comments section in one of these discussions:

"Simply put, he is someone who hoped for change, and was deceived. There are no doubt many more similarly disaffected people out there."

Interesting comment. There's bound to be enough spin generated over this deal to stop the world, but from what I can see of all of his stuff there's no reason for any political accusations to fly here. Most of his writings appear schizophrenic, actually. Find something else interesting to b*tt heads over...

Yeah the guy is an obvious nut job.

I heard that CNN is already trying to tie him to the Tea Party.

But, with that favorite book list, I doubt he was a Tea Party member.

Just as many of us have feared, all this violent rhetoric...the Hitler talk, the Overthrow the government...showing up at protests with guns...the signs saying net time we will not be unarmed...

Sadly many of us saw this coming...18 people shot ...all I can hope is that those injured all pull threw ok and that people learn to town town there talk...they claim its talk...but sometimes others follow threw on it.

We don't know what his issue was, if he was a right wing nut, a left wing nut, or just a nut...but I hope regardless some take away from this the idea of debate without threats of Violence, even if just implied, or the need to show up armed to these events and think they are making a "political statement"

First of all,,People are sick n tired of Democrats try to twist things around just because they think its wrong and unethical. Like take governor Jan Brewer fior example. She was elected to protect the people of Arizona. Now when Obama took her to court because of that Illegal Immigration law she sign to give cops the power to arrest you if youre here illegaly. Democrats always take republicans to court when theres something they dont like. And when Democrats dont like the Majorty republican house or Senate they Fillabuster bills to hold up progress. Like take George Bush judges nominees for example. When Judges are too conservitive they fillabuster to prevent him or her to the federal bench. Americans are sick n tired of this. This man took manners into his own hands because of People like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi piss him off! You never see Republicans play the fillabuster game against democrats. Like for example Wheres the Fillabuster on Bill Clintons hate law? Wheres the Fillabuster on Bill Clintons Dont Ask Dont Tell policy? Wheres the Fillabuster on Bill Clintons appointed Judges? Wheres the Fillabuster on Bill Clintons Appointed Janet Reno? Since When republicans take Bill Clintons policy to courts?? You see Republicans dont play that political game only Liberal democrats do that kind of crap.

The OP has a not credible source - Huffington Post. Until a credible source is cited, everyone should discount what is a predictable smear campaign in despicably trying to take cynical political advantage of a tragedy. Further, the also predictable assertion that people should not get upset or exercize their free speech rights in opposition to the leftwingers' driving this country over the abyss, because some nutcase might shoot someone, is laughably illogical.

Why don't you all give it a rest and let the investigation take it course. It's bad enough these people lost their lives but to have it turn into political spin because you hate one side or the other is rather childish. A 9 year old girl is among the victims and I hope and pray this wasn't politically motivated because if it was then shame on all of us. Thoughts and prayers to the all the victims involved in this senseless act of violence.

Disgusting Liberals....they have no shame.

This tragedy could be their opening to further impose their control over our lives and take more of our liberties.

One-Sided CBS Report Paints Palin as Responsible for Giffords Shooting

Capitalizing on the shooting in Tucson this afternoon, CBS furthered the lunatic left rhetoric that Sarah Palin was somehow responsible for this heinous crime. The theory being that the shooter was inspired by Palin’s midterm election map, which featured Gabrielle Giffords as a potential target.

“…critics of Sarah Palin have already drawn a link between the shooting and the fact that the former Alaska governor put Giffords on a "target list" of lawmakers Palin wanted to see unseated in the midterm elections.”
