WE are free to do what we like under the law. I suspect we have more freedom than the USA.

You clearly are not "free" to keep what you earn but are instead forced to "share" it for the benefit of others... That's not freedom, it's slavery. And... Both our major parties are Big Government parties, Big Business is forced to get in bed with government, not the other way around.

You are not very free at all. You are forced to vote or pay a fine right? 50 dollars isn't it? Or 40? You are not free to have a gun for self-protection. Your nanny state is flat scary, though ours is getting bigger thanks to the people in your country and England having no back bone to stand up to the government. Every country is different. I am happy with Australia support of the workers and the banning of guns. I know this will not work in the USA. We do have compulsory attendance at the electoral booth. But you do not have to vote just get your name mark off.

If I were to create a poll asking the members of this board if you should be forced to buy each of us lunch, a majority would likely vote to get a free lunch at your expense. The results are no different in Europe or any other collectivist society.

When you're offering the majority of people a benefit at the expense of a minority of the population, you're likely to find overwhelming support for such policies. However, such policies are immoral, and by extension, the people who propose and support such policies are equally immoral. Forcing some individuals to engage in uncompensated labor for the benefit of some other individual, or group of individuals, is slavery and such actions are immoral.
