Given the fear mongering and misinformation that has passed for debate and discussion on this bill, it is not surprising that there are angry people shouting at the "town hall" meetings about health care reform. The nonsense about death panels, about euthanasia, about rationing, and using tax dollars to pay for illegal aliens is not being debated in the halls of Congress, yet there seem to be a lot of people who think that's what the pro health care reform voices are advocating.
Further, the argument that the "left" shouted about the war, so that gives the "right" the power to shout down health care debate is simply not a good argument. For one thing, two wrongs don't make a right. For another, the war protesters weren't drowning out debate about how best to proceed in the war, or about whether or not we should go to war. There actually wasn't any public debate about those things anyway.
And, yes, both the war protesters and the health care reform opposers have a right to be heard, whether or not they agree with your or my point of view. What neither has a right to do is shout down someone else's voice. That is taking away the freedom of speech from the opposing side.
As for Top Gun's video, it is pretty well edited and spun.
Here is another that is much more credible. Is this protest, or is it simply putting a stop to debate? What do you think?
