7 dead 20+ wounded on Ft. Hood Texas 2-3 gunmen....

Sure they know. He was a councelor and he often spoke openly about it. He put on a website that a suicide bomber was much like a fellow soilder who jumped on a bomb to save his fellow servicemen.

This has been going on for over 6 month with him. They also said today (witnesses) that he targeted certian people who spoke out against his ideas.

So, this wasn't, or at least shouldn't have been, a surprise? Why didn't the Army head it off before it got to this point?

Doesn't anyone keep an eye on that sort of thing?

So far we still have to commit the crime or try to commit the crime before they can arrest us.

He was being watched apparently for the last 6 months. That I know of he never actually threatened anyone, just made general statements. There was probably no way to know he would do what he did until he actually did it.

Had they taken his guns away because he was a terrorist simpathizer the ACLU would have been right there and the service painted in a very bad light.

I think if he had made an actual threat they would have done something, that is probably what they were waiting for while watching him the last 6 months.

Its a very senstive situation I am sure.

I have to say, its odd you say if someone had taken his guns away..the ACLU would have gone after them....why not all the right wing pro gun people also? He had committed no crime, there was no reason to take them. And the Army just promoted him, I find it hard to believe had this been known at that time it would have done so...I think being sent over caused something in him to flip...I don't think this was some "I a am going to join the army, so one day I can....type thing" If I had to guess, given his job, he probably heard people talking to him, about the worse abuses and things that happened in Iraq and Afghanistan...to Muslims there...Troops who got out of line, civilians killed in mix ups, ect....and it angered him ...screwed him up...then the idea of actually being sent there drove him over the edge...

You have a good point, the pro gun rights people may have also came to his defense. The ACLU would not have because they like guns but because they would feel a muslim was being targeted.

I dont think and I know I did not say or imply that he joined up in the military so he could do this.

Its reported he is a convert, he could have converted very recently and dont you have to be there a while to be a Major?

He got a bad evaluation in his job performance recently and that upset him, it could be part of this, I dont know

And I didnt say what I did about taking his gun away because I thought they should have, I dont agree with "thought police" had he ever actually threatened anyone then I would have been ok with taking his gun away but I know of no reports of him threatening anyone and its not a crime nor should it be to simpothize with terrorists

It's hard to wrap ones mind around this random act of violence, hard to comprehend the mind-set that would do such a thing, hard to think about the ongoing horror of all those personnel gunned down and all of those wounded, and all of those weapons everywhere but who/what/why are the perpetrators doing that to fellow soldiers

Lots of investigation going to take place before we know all the answers to this debacle!

HMMMMM,never happened under G.W. Bush, for all his ills, it just never happened. Possibly the anti- America policy from our White House , you know apologizing to the WORLD , turns these crazies loose. Even some who serve in our Military. We reap what we sow! I blame the Obama adminstration because it has painted America as the VILLAIN from day one! SAD!
Thus giving these crazies an excuse to do this . You know , if your own president says America is evil, then these nuts find a reason to do what they do!

Does the soldier that lobbed grenades into other soldiers' tents in 2003 not count because the victims were only wounded?

True enough. We can speculate that his conversion to Islam had something to do with it, and further speculate that there may be more who have infiltrated the armed forces and are waiting for their chance.

But, that's just wild speculation at this point. No one knows for sure.

Excellant post and perfectly stated...all we have is conjecture & innuendo & he said she said and 'NO FACTS'...so I'll wait for the review & authorities to tell us what/why/how it all happened...if it ever is going to be fully disclosed; given that his did happen on the military base, we'll be allowed to know WHAT THEY WANT US TO KNOW AND THAT WILL BE ALL THAT WE GET TOLD. Until that time it's just GOSSIP!!!

WELL, when election time comes in 2010 &2012 I will think of FT.HOOD and what happened today. Our president has been APOLOGIZING to the WORLD for our ACTIONS as a PEOPLE. NO other President in our entire history ever did this, Many said at the time he was wrong , and immature as a World Leader , to condemn his own NATION , his OWN people. But , he never quits, every so often he speaks how evil we are . Well, we live in a world where millions of our enemies are looking for reasons to attack us. Today , one or maybe more , took action against our perceived evil at FT HOOD , Texas. Hopefully others will not follow but I'm afraid they will. PLEASE , NO MORE APOLOGIZING FOR AMERICA! ITS KILLING US!

I hope you burn in hell...just a thought

and for all those who think we should arm school teachers after VA....I think this shows how its just not going to cut it as a defence...while Military don't walk around with guns , outside MP's...there is alot more access to them then at a school...and still this happened.
"this", shows nothing about arming school teachers or anyone else. This was a shooting on a military base with all the facts not in yet. Also, "...Military don't walk around with guns , outside MP's...there is alot more access to them then at a school...", the soldiers on a state-side military base do not have access to guns unless in live fire training or drilling. As a former soldier, they have no more "access", (unless MPs) in general than civilians.

yes I no my point is that, on a Base with MP's and all that...you can still have one nut kill alot of people fast....and thinking that having some teacher armed will help anything is pretty dumb....

What you say makes sense if he had been a civilian, but he was a major in the Army. Does the Army actually let their officers express sympathy for the enemy? It seems to me he could have been relieved of his command. As for taking his guns away, they weren't his guns in the first place, were they? Didn't they belong to the Army?

I dont see how the army has a right to tell you who you should or should not have simpathy for. Its only natural that a person of Islamic faith would have at least some concern at the idea of fighting other muslims, and anyone could have issue with war.

You are right the guns are issued but if he has made no threats why would anyone take his gun away?

I think the man who rolled the granades into fellow troops sleeping quarters was also open about the fact he did not like the war and simpathized with the terrorists, though I am sure he called them by some other name than terrorists.
