Full marks to the USSR for their support of the revolutions in Afghanistan, Cuba and Vietnam.

The 1978 revolution in Afghanistan which brought in full women's rights, universal health care, education and suffrage was of course sabotaged by the US who supported radical Islam, including of course Osama Bin Laden.

At the time of the illegal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq there were no ( or hardly any ) Russian or Chinese combat troops in the country.

Are you really trying to promote some sort of political solution while being so ignorant of historical affairs.

You are looking at it from only one side. Afghanistan was and still is harboring war criminals and terrorists. Iraq is a totally different issue that the rest of Islam should have dealt with themselves years earlier.

Let's look at USSR military support outside it's borders...Poland, Czech, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Congo, Sudan, and Angola.

That doesn't even include their version of colonialism after WWII...Armenian SSR, Azerbaijan SSR, Byelorussian SSR, Estonian SSR, Georgian SSR, Kazakh SSR, Kirghiz SSR, Latvian SSR, Lithuanian SSR, Moldavian SSR, Russian SFSR, Tajik SSR, Turkmen SSR, Ukrainian SSR and Uzbek SSR.

The Chinese have reached out to Tibet, Cambodia, Laos, N. Korea, and Mongolia. Their latest efforts have been in Brazil and Cuba.

TEST - lets say the USSR defeated Germany and Japan during WWII and the US was never involved. Does anyone believe the USSR would let Western Europe and Japan develop their own governments as the USA did?

If the USA is such a colonial power, why did we not maintain control over Western Europe and Japan after WWII like the USSR did over eastern Europe?

No one is saying the US is a colonial power, and no one is talking about World War II. The point is that since the US has become a super-power, it is willing to aggressively send troops and/or bomb places all over the world. The most notable and glaring examples are Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. But consider the bombing of Serbia, the troops sent to Somalia, Lebanon, and a hundred other acts of war far from our borders.

Actions taken by China have can be classified as territorial wars - where the dispute is about land that is arguably part of China's historical territory.

I cannot imagine the uproar that would be produced if China were to send thousands of Chinese troops to Venezuela to support President Hugo Chavez. Of course, such a deployment would be impossible because China does not have the near by support bases. The US has of course, has many the Western Pacific, including the Philippines and in Okinawa Japan.

Look at exactly how many military bases the US has scattered all over the world, and how frequently we use our military might all over the world. Think of how this must look to the other nations of the world and you will understand just how aggressive the US really is both by appearance and by actions.

I would like nothing more than to close the bases all over the world and let them sort things out for themselves. We did that after WWI and that didn't work out so well. Have we gotten ourselves into some civil wars that we should have left alone, maybe.

The problem is that there are just enough extremists out there that are being used by economically and power hungry fundamentalists that without a hall monitor there would be mass genocide every couple of years. That we looked the other way in Darfur was wrong. If we pull boots out of the sand in the middle east then Israel and the extremist Muslims will go to war. If you have a better solution on how to keep the peace then I'm all ears.

When it comes right-down-to-it...what the Soviets & Chinese did, was no different than what Saddam Hussein did (and, The Shah Of Iran, for that matter).....with our approval; kept the tribalism to a minimum!!!!

Oh please. That's just one part of the fabric of history that we'd like to forget. How about the fact that we had Japanese concentration camps right here on US soil? Nobody ever talks about that when we talk about the World Wars. They want to gloss over that little tidbit.
