Why didnt they make tabbaco against the law when marijuana declared illegal back in 1937? You realize if they banned tabbaco in 1937 we wouldnt dealt with lung cancer today?

Because when women first got the vote they outlawed alcohol and the gov learned that they could not successfully outlaw things that very very large portions of the population engage in. As soon as the number of people who smoke drops below a certain level it will be outlawed. The trend and desire to outlaw it is already there. First it was outlawed in restaurants, then in cars around children then in lobbies... We are seeing a slippery slope in action.

who smoked pot?

figure that out, and you figured out why.

Pot was smoked by mexicans and blacks but blatant racism is only 1/2 of the answer. William Hearst ran a smear campaign against marijuana because the hemp plant was in competition with the timber industry, and being a corporate american he had to outlaw his competition

“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”

“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”

“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”

“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”

Apathy, I thank you for you idea. Not sure I agree with all of it but I think it is worth considering. By the way, since you hardly seem apathetic, why do you call yourself "Apathy"?

Corporate Americans do not have the power to make laws. They must have the cooperation of congressmen to do that. In which case the blame, if that is how it happened, would rightly be placed on corporatism rather than on corporations.

The solution is to stop congressmen from picking winners and losers in what is supposed to be a capitalist marketplace. Equal protection under the law says that congressmen cannot make laws that favor one person or group over another. Justice must be blind.

Don't forget to quote Brian from Family Guy on that, lol.

But really, that is a poor excuse for the reasoning. Harry didn't begin his "smear" campaign until 1934 (he stated working against it in 1930, but didn't step up his efforts until 34-37). However, laws were being passed restricting the use of hemp and cannabis as early as 1906 in D.C. and other states passed state laws restricting and outlawing it, decades before Harry got involved.

And if we logically stop to think about it, the 30's were not the ideal time to try to outlaw something (this coming just years after the alcohol prohibition fell flat on it's face) unless they had some actual reasoning.

pot impairs your mental capacity while tobacco does not.

a betrer question is why pot and not alcohol ? both impair, both bad for you.

Hey there.

I am guessing that that question was not asked because the OP wants the banning of tobacco more than parity in what is or is not banned. But that is a pretty big guess.
