Revising Book on Disorders of the Mind

Clipped from the story:
“The treatment of bipolar disorder is meds first, meds second and meds third,” said Dr. Jack McClellan, a psychiatrist at the University of Washington who is not working on the manual. “Whereas if these kids have a behavior disorder, then behavioral treatment should be considered the primary treatment.”
And finally...they are trying to be politically correct and change the terminology of writing diagnoses for "mental retardation" to "intellectual disability"...so for all of those hyper sensitive people who claim we no longer use that word 'RETARDED'...the medical field has/still uses the terminology!!!
In a conference call on Tuesday, Dr. Regier, Dr. Kupfer and several other members of the task force outlined their favored revisions. The task force favored making semantic changes that some psychiatrists have long argued for, trading the term “mental retardation” for “intellectual disability,” for instance, and “substance abuse” for “addiction.”

sounds like they are looking to change the therapy protocols, not diagnosis based on your clip. very different and actually telling (on their part, not yours A4).

Speak English...LOL
So you don't agree that the medical field has been; not only very lax in getting with the current terminology of Political Correctness and that {if you read the article ???} that there is still an on going struggle to get the medical field to step into the 21st century?

Nothing wrong with the term retarded unless its hurled as a slur. But if they want to change, its no matter to me.

Diagnosis is how you tell whats wrong with someone, therapy protocol is how you fix or compensate for it.

I might read the article if I get time.
