Be happy republicans, your free market for profit health care has a new winner...a medicen already for sale for 10-20 bucks will go up to 1500..A dose..

You guys must love all those Free market profits being made right? and of course if your insurance goes up, its all Obama right? not capitalist money whores drowning in profits.

I'll be curious to see how these compounding pharmacies respond.

But FDA is hardly free market. There is considerable cost to march through that process for the 10k of women that might benefit. If you want to complain, and please feel free, at least direct your ire at the federal government process that causes this.

When a single pharmacy produces a drug that is not free markets that is called a monopoly.

When it is the government that sets up the monopoly that is just the normal course of events in Washington.

Obamacare, if it survives, results in fewer hospitals, fewer doctors, fewer insurance companies, and fewer pharmacies - an across the board reduction in free trade and a move toward monopolization.

Government approved monopoly... Nothing capitalist or free market about that.

Pocket, try to remember that a "Free" market is free of government interference, that's what the "free" in free market is a reference to.

Hence the need for the company to charge $1500 per dose... To get even more government approval. You railed about the "free" market for this increase but now that you know its the fault of the government, are you going to rail against the government and FDA involvement that led to this outrageous price increase? I doubt it...

So, do you still wish to blame capitalism and free markets for this? Feel free to argue that there is no government interference going on here, we could all use a good laugh.

- prohibition of insurance company competition across state lines

- refusal to rein in the predatory lawyer class by instituting tort reform

- inability to crack down on medicare and medicaid fraud

- forcing state mandates of health insurance coverage for non-diseases such as pregnancy and abortion

- refusing to modernize the glacial pace of drug approvals by the FDA, tremendously increasing their ultimate cost.

- importing tens of millions of illegal aliens from mexico who loot the US health care system

- refusal to crack down on international piracy of US medical intellectual property by socialized health care rationing systems

Bald-faced misrepresentations from leftwingers have to be confronted at every turn, because they use the propaganda technique of endlessly repeating lies, until many simple-minded people who vote begin to believe them.

As near as I can tell it was illegal to buy drugs from Canada before 2002 but the FDA decided to start looking the other way in 2006.

Bush was in office from 2001 to 2009.

So when was the law first written?

But these are the companies that the free market people claim will some for some reason will do whats best for the people...I do blame the government for letting this happen...however I doubt they thought they would do this with the cost of the pill. Greed over peoples ( and babies health) and Government being stupid enough to trust a company. Personaly I think the government should do everything it can to reverse this decision that was stupid but at least well meaning I belive ( though possible bribery as well int here). but the People at this company should remove them self from the gene pool for there morals.

People are by nature evil. And that is true for the people who run companies or government alike.

When there is a free market those people will feel a whole lot of pressure to play nice.

It is in the absence of free markets where the problem comes in.

If the government did not think that these people would be forced to raise the price after spending millions to get the monopoly then it just shows that government is incapable of micro-managing an economy.

Did you seriously miss the part of the article YOU POSTED that plainly stated FDA approval would cost HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS? Where do you think that money would come from, Obama's stash?

Oh but it's all greedy corporations... They are just charging $1500 a dose to line their pockets, they don't actually need to raise HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS for FDA approval like your article stated... I'm sure that's just an excuse to fleece the consumer.

You really are trying to argue that the Government didn't know this would happen... You think government is stupid for trusting this company...

How stupid are the people who trust government to "do whats best for the people"?

I could see this being a Leftist strategy to hasten single payer health care. Destroy the drug and insurance companies through legislation that massively increases costs (which has to be passed on to the consumer) then have your sycophants in the media and blogosphere blame the increase in costs on the greed of private sector companies.

That is exactly what has been going on. The government has been working diligently to destroy the private health care industry with outrageous regulations. It is so sad more Americans do not know this.
