British Values
There is no such thing as British values. There is, however, a British way of doing things. It follows that Michael Gove erred when he said schools should promote British values. To expect schools to uphold British institutions would make much more sense. What matters, in Britain, is loyalty to the institutions which in this country enable us to enjoy in our own constantly evolving fashion the blessings of democracy, freedom, fairness and the rest. Teenage pregnancy, promiscuity, binge drinking, rape culture, victim blaming, casual racism, escalating homophobia and sexism are basic British values. These are British values and British identity: Groping, paedophilia, peeving at "boobs", laddism, sexist "banter", chauvinism, boorishness, old queens, battery and assault, drinking, taking copious amounts of drugs, smoking, littering, ram-raiding, car stealing, fathering children by different mothers, halitosis, obesity, toupes, shortness, bad dress sense, shaved heads, tattoos, gold teeth, earrings on men, three quarter length shorts, pig ignorance.
What values should we promote? Those that pertained in the 1940s which are now all but dead? Or whatever that passes for values in 2014 - the right to divorce at the drop of a hat, to have children with multiple partners without censure, to drink to oblivion, to dress our children like porn stars? Muslims hate all this. Why should we care? Because it's destroying us as well. Why is it that native kids convert to Islam? Because they're looking for boundaries & the false boundaries of Islam are the only ones on offer. Ours have more or less collapsed. We can't fight this culture war until we put our own house in order. Where there is a moral vacuum Islam or something like it will fill it. Witness the ever more frequent conversion of native problem kids to Islam. When it comes to showing them behavioural boundaries Islam is often the only show in town. Trouble is their boundaries are in all the wrong places, but how would these kids know? The only things they've seen in life are absent fathers, multiple step-fathers & 'uncles' & drugs. Islam lifts them out of this chaos.
A secular school being turned into a faith school is not "extremism" or a "swamp" of full of infant terrorist "alligators". It's an unauthorised Muslim faith school. Nothing Ofsted have found seems to amount to anything more than that. The media seem to have got this completely out of proportion. Allowing pupils to pray at lunchtime if they wish to and wear the hijab if they choose to, or shortening the school day during the Ramadan fast – is an attempt to meet their spiritual needs as one tool to raise their achievement. Islam and Muslims are being criticised virtually every day by large sections of the media. There was a hysteria a few weeks ago over halal meat and now we have this. This is a witch hunt plain and simple.
Why should not religious taxpayers have a right to send their children to schools that accord with their beliefs? Is this not, after all, supposed to be a tolerant society? If people receive a religious education, they are not rendered incapable of thinking. That is a thoughtless idea of people who advocate 'secularism' --it may not be a religion, but it certainly believes it has a monopoly on truth. Today's 'secularists' are extremists, who want to impose their views on the rest of society. Sir Michael says children (in the criticised Muslim) schools in Birmingham are not being encouraged to "develop tolerant attitudes towards other faiths". What about state and church schools? Schools should be run by head teachers who are answerable to boards of governors who are elected by parents. The role of the state should be minimised - concerned only with acceptable standards of education being delivered and economic efficiency. Most problems in education and in society in general have been instigated by politicians who are the real scourge in modern society, not religion or faith schools.

In India and Africa the Brits behaved like dictators and enforced a White Christian, UK bigotry on the locals, often by second rate Britishers who has failed at home. Gove's plan to promote British values in schools will do absolutely nothing to aid societal cohesion. Many young Muslims go to schools which are almost or entirely Muslim. Their friends are Muslim, their family is Muslim, their Mosque and, naturally, their values are Muslim. They have little meaningful experience or connection with our native peoples and culture. We have enabled a people of some 4 million souls to create their own culture and nation within our nation. Don't blame Muslims. This is perfectly natural and what people of very different cultures do when establishing a life in a different country. It is what we Brits did in Africa and India and other countries. If it causes problems in wider society, the people to blame are politicians who allowed mass immigration from very different cultures without a suitable programme of integration like other countries have like the States.
A core British value is to be ashamed of being British. Is respect for international law a British value, Mr Gove? Is thinking that Michael Gove is a bell-end officially a British value yet? What is a British value? Does the European Convention on Human Rights express British values? Who decides? Gove: all schools must promote 'British values' The British sense of fair play? The rules of cricket? A couple of Shakespeare quotes? Help me out - I'm really struggling with this and I have only lived here for 50 years... Gove's idea of British values won't include multiculturalism and political correctness? A "culture of fear and intimidation"= British values. Ofsted were assessing a nursery school's ability to prevent extremism. My guess is that schools in Birmingham are the new favourite battle ground for Tory politicians.

Neither does Gove, but it's a great sound bite isn't it? British Values! Let the rich get richer and sod the poor. Invade foreign countries, displace the local population, allow them to emigrate to the UK, then cry wolf when they set up 'free schools'.
According to the Holy Quran, all children are born Muslims but their parents grow them up as Christian, Jews, Hindus and atheist.
Muslim schools are not only faith schools but more or less bilingual schools. Muslim children need to learn and be well versed standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time they must learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural heritage and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village, he/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit.

This Trojan Horse is a stir up to put up an attitude amongst the British community upon Muslims AGAIN, this hysteria has all been blown up because they do not want non-Muslim youngsters falling to the idea of Islam. Jewish schools have a more strict approach to religion than the majority of Islamic schools or schools that are heavily influenced by Muslim governors, yet they are not gonna be investigated because any hysteria brought up would be labelled anti-Semitism to become increasingly anti-establishment and belligerent. And they would have every reason to if this garbage continues. Park view is not multi cultural. It is mono cultural. It is to all purposes an Islamic school posing as a British secular state school. This "Trojan horse" thing worries me...I do not think that Greek classical mythology necessarily falls within the frame of reference of Muslims.. This affair was started by a hoax letter , driven by Islamophobia , which achieved its end , courtesy of a Government paranoid about ' extremism ' without any definition of what it means , and a ' anti-terrorism industry ' trying to justify itself and its funding to the Home Office . Meanwhile Ofsted have become a political tool , a new thought police , with little relevance to the standards of education , and an agenda driven by paranoia in a society which constantly changes its moral goalposts , itself in moral flux and confusion . And let not forget where did this all started, with Al Qaeda, which was created and nurtured and armed by the West. Now everyone is complaining where do all these extremism come from. If you are serious about fighting Muslim extremism start by going to the source, in allied countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and so on. But that would never happen because you also want your cheap oil. Hypocrite.

It is easy to say" Go back to where you came from", but do not forget that British Muslims are actually born and educated here. They are in the unenviable position of trying to combine two different worlds. That is no easy. We do not want to change you lot but we would like to see our children getting balanced Islamic education along with National Curriculum. We would like our children to learn and be well versed in standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time we would like our children to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit. Bilingualism is an asset but British schooling regards it as a problem.

We live in a shrunken world and millions of people are on the move; one of our biggest challenges is how we learn to live in proximity to difference – different skin colours, different beliefs and different way of life. According to a study by COMPAS, Muslims born and educated were given the impression of outsiders. The perception among Muslims is that they are unwelcome in Britain is undermining efforts to help them integrate into wider society. Most of them say that they have experienced race discrimination and religious prejudice. Muslims and Islam is promoted a fundamentalist and separatist by the western elite, which have negative impact on community and social cohesion. The number of racist incidents occurring in London Borough of Redbridge’s schools have reached their highest levels since record begin.

A City or a locality, where Muslims are in majority is a ghetto. There is a tendency for people of similar backgrounds to live together in neighbourhoods. The term”ghettoisation” is inappropriate. The original ghettos in Europe during the middle ages were set up by law to confine the Jewish population to one area of a city. According to a research by an Australian academic that Muslim communities in Britain are being increasingly ghettoized in a trend that set back hopes of assimilation by years. Britain has now eight cities in the top 100 most ghettoized cities. The people from the Pakistani community in Bradford and Oldham and Leicester had trebled during the decade. A report by an academic Dr Alan Carling, that Bradford risks becoming a front line in the global clash between the West and Islam. But Islam and Muslims do not clash with the concepts of pluralism, secularism and globalisation. The native flight from Bradford’s inner-city wards showed clear evidence of an increase in segregation in the city since 1991. Native parents are avoiding sending their children in state schools where Muslims and other minorities are in majority. The dominance of Pakistani Muslims in the city has meant that Bradford has become bi-cultural.

Immigrants are the creators of Britain new wealth, otherwise, inner cities deprived areas could not get new lease of life. The native Brits regard such areas as ghettoes. Integration is not religious and cultural, it is economic and Muslims are well integrated into British society and at the same time they are proud of their Islamic, linguistic and cultural identities, inspite of discrimination they have been facing in all walks of life. According to UN, 80% of British Muslims feel discriminated. They are less burden on social services. Immigrants made up 8.7% of the population, but accounted for 10.2% of all collected income tax

It is often quoted by the Western media that Muslim schools ghettoizes the children, and even lead to their radicalisation if they are not integrated. There is no evidence that faith schools lead to a “ghettoized education system. In British schools, pupils are encouraged to focus too much on their similarities rather than their differences. The integrationist approach merely results in Muslims feeling that their faith, language and culture is not respected.

A report by the Institute for Community Cohesion found that native parents were deserting some schools after finding their children out numbered by pupils from ethnic minorities. Schools in parts of England are becoming increasingly segregated. The study focused on 13 local authorities. Many of the schools and colleges are segregated and this was generally worsening over recent years. This is RACISM because British society is the home of institutional racism. My statement regarding Muslim schools where there is no place for non-Muslim child or a teacher is based on educational process and not on racism. Muslim children need Muslim teachers during their developmental periods. For higher studies and research, Muslim teacher is not a priority.

If you want your kids to learn that stuff then send them to a school that does it. You should have no expectation of UK doing this. It serves no public good and expecting all citizens to pay for it is not reasonable. If this makes you appear as not integrating them perhaps you need to understand this is a direct result of these demands.
It seems to me that your insistance on exclusive education without oversight of objective management is nothing short of knowing what would be found would be alarming.
Perhaps you need ti develope a new midel. Send kids for practicle education like everyone else and supplement it with privately funded education of your exclusive things.
Anything else is indefensable.

Forced marriage, honour killing and genital mutilation are rare practices among migrant communities. Muslim migrants are worried about institutional racism, binge drinking, drug addiction, incivility, gun and knife crimes, high rate of abortions and teen age pregnancies. An average of 20 English girls under the age of 16 falls pregnant every day. Muslim parents do not want their children to be integrated into such barbarity. Muslim women feel torn between two cultures, thanks to the British education system with non-Muslim monolingual teachers. It makes their lives very confusing.
The tragedy of forced marriage and honour killing could have been avoided if the poor girls were educated in a single sex state funded Muslim schools by female Muslim teachers. Educational attainment rises quite significantly if boys and girls are educated separately. The tragedies are an eye opener for all those Muslim parents who send their children to state schools where they are exposed to non-Muslim teachers who have no respect for Islamic faith and Muslim community and do not understand the needs and demands of the Muslim children. Muslim schools are crucial for Muslim children because western education makes a man/woman stupid. The hypocrisy of the Western society is clearly seen whereas an Australian Judge failed to jail nine males who admitted gang-raping a 10-year old aborigine girl in 2005, saying the victim probably agreed to have sex with them and a UNICEF Photo of the year shows, a bridegroom, 40, with his 11-year old bride in Afghanistan. In my opinion, a UNICEF photo of the year must show a nine year British girl having a baby and another photo showing a gang of teenage girls with anti-social behaviour and vomiting out side a pub, thanks to binge drinking. Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. Muslim schools are the solutions and not a problem. They help to strengthen community cohesion, not undermine it. Muslim schools stand as shining beacons of light, serving as one of the most crucial factors which protect Muslim children from the onslaught of Eurocentricism, homosexuality, racism and secular values and traditions. The silent majority of Muslim parents would like to send their children to Muslim schools but there are not enough schools to go by. The only alternative left is either British Government should introduce voucher system for parents to choose the school of their choice or designate all those state schools as Muslim community schools where Muslim pupils are in majority. There are hundreds of state schools where Muslims are in majority. Such schools may be handed over to Muslim educational Trusts or charities for their management. They are in a better position to educate Muslim children in accordance with their needs and demands. This demand is in accordance with the law of the land because there are state schools already managed by private companies. Muslim community is not asking for a favour. It is their legal right.

Really ...... then why is it that honor killings are so commonly practiced by mostly muslims? Not only in predominate muslim countries but, in civilized countries like the UK and US as well.

Surely you understand why no civilized person believes anything you say nor has any sympathy for your cause.

I understand your religion is being hijacked from within by its' own members. But, that is a battle that must be fought among muslims.

Expecting governments to preserve your "right" to your religion is not reality.

Your points about abuse if femakes us laughable
You finally admit you have no wish to integrate into the society you chose over the one you left, a little honesty is nice to see.
If your kids are confused perhaps it has more to do with your pretzel logic and baldfaced hypocracy.
If you want this education for your kids buy it yourself. But dont act surprized if the UK views you as the threat that you are.
 
The Trojan Horse plot to take over Birmingham schools is driven by the same 'warped' Islamic extremism as Nigerian terror group Boko Harem, Tony Blair claimed this morning. Mr Blair said the alleged plot by Muslim hardliners in Birmingham was part of a wider global problem of 'extremism based on a warped and abusive view of a religion'. Would someone please tell Blair how much the British people hate him and his wife. Blair had an arrogant and abusive faith that he was infallible and deceived to lead the country to an unjustified war. Cameron appeals to ancient values which were only the king permitting his lords and barons to subject the peasants to licensed thuggery and economic abuse for 800 years. It had nothing to do with liberty for the common man or woman. That basic structure still exists. We need total reform, a republic, a proper democracy and a social and legal system based on equality of effort and opportunity and fair consideration for the effects of our actions on others.

As pupils bounce into Oldknow Academy, neatly turned out in smart blazers and ties and greeting the teacher at the gate with impeccable politeness, it is possible to see why this primary school might be considered one of the best in Birmingham.

Last week, however, Oldknow became one of five schools to be blacklisted by government inspectors, amid accusations that Islamic extremists were trying to take over leadership of schools in the city.

Though the accusations came in the form of an anonymous letter sent last November to the city council – a letter now considered to be fake – it has raised some uncomfortable truths in Birmingham, which has a large Muslim population.

And it has highlighted the challenges facing Britain's secular education system as it tries to accommodate the cultural desires and needs of a growing Muslim community while standing vigilant against dangerous extremism.

The anonymous letter led to snap inspections in 21 government-funded schools in Birmingham. Inspectors for Britain's Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) found that in some schools, parents and governors wanted their children to be taught in line with conservative Islam, and were pressuring teachers and principals to comply.

The report was particularly damning of Oldknow, where 99.2 percent of pupils are Muslim. Inspectors said that Islamic studies had been added to the "personal, health and social education curriculum," while the school had funded a student trip to Saudi Arabia.

Governors promoted “a particular and narrow faith-based ideology" and had cancelled a regular Christian prayer and a Christmas assembly. During a recent school fête, raffles and tombola were banned because they were un-Islamic, the report said.

“Some of our findings are deeply worrying and in some ways quite shocking,” Michael Wilshaw, head of the Ofsted schools inspectorate, told a press conference. “In the most serious cases, a culture of fear and intimidation has taken grip.”

The school was downgraded from “outstanding” – the top grading – to “inadequate” – the lowest. Oldknow and four other schools in the city were put into “special measures,” which means regular inspections and potentially closure if there's no improvement. The education secretary, Michael Gove, said last week that Ofsted could inspect schools without warning, instead of the usual few days' notice.

Bullying governors At Oldknow, the acting principal did not return calls seeking comment. His predecessor, Bhupinder Kondal, who is not Muslim, was reportedly hounded out of her job last year.

Outside the gate, most parents dropping off pupils appear to speak little English. Among those that do, mostly fathers, many say they were happy with their children's education. But others complain about the conservative Islamic agenda of school governors.

“I am a Muslim and I am concerned,” says a bank cashier who didn't want to give his name for fear of “bad feeling around here.”

“It's not the teachers that are the problem; it's the governors. They have got too involved in the teaching. It's not extremism as such, but they shouldn't ignore other religions."

His worries are echoed by Syed Ali, a shopkeeper with three pupils at the school. “I'm happy with the school but I do think it should appoint governors who have an idea of the national curriculum,” he says.

However, Mohammed Janghir, who describes himself as a moderate Muslim, says the school promotes religious tolerance, citing as evidence his daughter's recent visit to a synagogue, and the occasional rendition of the Lord's Prayer.

“But when a school is totally Muslim, you need to cater to the needs of Muslims,” he says, adding that when he attended Oldknow himself as a child, the class was overwhelmingly white.

In Small heath, the neighbourhood of redbrick Victorian row houses in which Oldknow is situated, most of the women walking in the streets are veiled; many also have their faces covered. The neighbourhood is dotted with Salafi bookshops, madrassas, and shops selling modest clothing.

At Holy Family Primary, a Roman Catholic primary school on the same street as Oldknow, most of the children are Muslim. In the Catholic church around the corner, 67-year-old Eddie Mahoney, who has lived in Small heath since he was 10 years old, says that in an area that was once largely Irish, he is one of the last left.

“We don't have a problem with it – it's just that everything has changed so fast, the colour and the culture, that you don't really know where you are,” he says.

This sense of multiculturalism-induced confusion seems to have also to have affected Ofsted. Education Secretary Gove said all schools in England must actively “promote” British values.

“These pious conservative Muslims share many values with those on the Conservative right, in terms of discipline and morality,” says Tariq Madood, a sociologist at Bristol University. “But somehow the Conservative right has taken them to be a threat.”

Ofsted's apparent conflation of Islamic conservatism and extremism has been widely criticized. The Muslim Council of Britain, with which more than 500 organizations from mosques to schools are affiliated, said, “extremism will not be confronted if Muslims and their religious practices are considered as, at best, contrary to the values of this country and at worst, seen as 'the swamp' that feeds extremism.”

As news of the school downgrades broke, a group of Birmingham principals from other schools called a press conference to give a more nuanced interpretation of what had gone wrong.

They had, they said, experienced pressure from some Muslim parents and governors to adopt a more conservative approach – from introducing segregated changing areas for physical education to the end of mixed-gender swimming. But they said that these pressures did not constitute extremism.

“I don’t think extremism is wanting a good Islamic education within the maintained sector,” said Christine Mitchell, head of Clifton Primary School.

Teachers, for their part, say that what is really needed – above and beyond any discussion of multiculturalism, extremism, or conservatism – is for Ofsted to support educators who feel pressured by governors or parents.

“We fully understand that parents want their children to be brought up as good Muslims," she said. "But we can’t accommodate that [in state-run primary schools].”

It is easy to say" Go back to where you came from", but do not forget that British Muslims are actually born and educated here. They are in the unenviable position of trying to combine two different worlds. That is no easy. We do not want to change you lot but we would like to see our children getting balanced Islamic education along with National Curriculum. We would like our children to learn and be well versed in standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time we would like our children to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of their literature and poetry. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit. Bilingualism is an asset but British schooling regards it as a problem.

We live in a shrunken world and millions of people are on the move; one of our biggest challenges is how we learn to live in proximity to difference – different skin colours, different beliefs and different way of life. According to a study by COMPAS, Muslims born and educated were given the impression of outsiders. The perception among Muslims is that they are unwelcome in Britain is undermining efforts to help them integrate into wider society. Most of them say that they have experienced race discrimination and religious prejudice. Muslims and Islam is promoted a fundamentalist and separatist by the western elite, which have negative impact on community and social cohesion. The number of racist incidents occurring in London Borough of Redbridge’s schools have reached their highest levels since record begin.

A City or a locality, where Muslims are in majority is a ghetto. There is a tendency for people of similar backgrounds to live together in neighbourhoods. The term”ghettoisation” is inappropriate. The original ghettos in Europe during the middle ages were set up by law to confine the Jewish population to one area of a city. According to a research by an Australian academic that Muslim communities in Britain are being increasingly ghettoized in a trend that set back hopes of assimilation by years. Britain has now eight cities in the top 100 most ghettoized cities. The people from the Pakistani community in Bradford and Oldham and Leicester had trebled during the decade. A report by an academic Dr Alan Carling, that Bradford risks becoming a front line in the global clash between the West and Islam. But Islam and Muslims do not clash with the concepts of pluralism, secularism and globalisation. The native flight from Bradford’s inner-city wards showed clear evidence of an increase in segregation in the city since 1991. Native parents are avoiding sending their children in state schools where Muslims and other minorities are in majority. The dominance of Pakistani Muslims in the city has meant that Bradford has become bi-cultural.

Immigrants are the creators of Britain new wealth, otherwise, inner cities deprived areas could not get new lease of life. The native Brits regard such areas as ghettoes. Integration is not religious and cultural, it is economic and Muslims are well integrated into British society and at the same time they are proud of their Islamic, linguistic and cultural identities, inspite of discrimination they have been facing in all walks of life. According to UN, 80% of British Muslims feel discriminated. They are less burden on social services. Immigrants made up 8.7% of the population, but accounted for 10.2% of all collected income tax

It is often quoted by the Western media that Muslim schools ghettoizes the children, and even lead to their radicalisation if they are not integrated. There is no evidence that faith schools lead to a “ghettoized education system. In British schools, pupils are encouraged to focus too much on their similarities rather than their differences. The integrationist approach merely results in Muslims feeling that their faith, language and culture is not respected.

A report by the Institute for Community Cohesion found that native parents were deserting some schools after finding their children out numbered by pupils from ethnic minorities. Schools in parts of England are becoming increasingly segregated. The study focused on 13 local authorities. Many of the schools and colleges are segregated and this was generally worsening over recent years. This is RACISM because British society is the home of institutional racism. My statement regarding Muslim schools where there is no place for non-Muslim child or a teacher is based on educational process and not on racism. Muslim children need Muslim teachers during their developmental periods. For higher studies and research, Muslim teacher is not a priority.

Nobody said it would be easy, If these things are so important to you, MAKE IT HAPPEN, But do not expect your neighbors to foot the bill.. When my kids went to private schools, I had to pay..
