Democratic government policy reflects nothing BUT the values of the people, through their legislatures. Many people's votes reflect their religious values, many don't. In a democracy, the majority rules, and nobody is required to provide a reason WHY they voted a certain way.

I approve it, as did many democrat congressmen who helped pass it in 2001 and 2006, but only in wartime.
It represents one in a long series of extraordinary measures required by the special conditions during a war, as when Roosevelt monitored ALL electronic messages into and out of the US during WWII, Abraham Lincoln monitored all telegraph traffic during the civil war, and Washington's army stopped and searched without warrant people suspected of being spies or couriers for the enemy during the American Revolution.

The patriot act went a little too far. Like illegal Wiretapping for example. Nazis used wiretapping during WWII.

its all about the constitution...except when its not right?
why should the government need a warrent to tap your phones?
why should the government not be able ro raid your home...and send you a warrent later?
why should you not be able to be held as a American without trial or even charges?
but goverment providing health care to those who cant get it? thats something only Hitler ( or all other nations on earth) would do

It was the economy..but his policies hurt & hurt some more..
The fact is.. Obama was elected because of bush not republicans. He was elected because he ran against a liberal named john mccain and conservatives stayed home.
The republicans are back on course having puked out bush. Democrats now have obama and the bluedogs want to puke out obama too. But Dems have a liberal wing that wants to be even more polarizing. So what is going to happen again is that republicans and conservatives are going to get stronger and the Democrats, the party with no soul and no sense, is going to disintegrate just as it has done every time it has flirted with ultra liberalism. Here is an air sick bag... go puke out some obama but don't get any chunks on your shoes.

This isnt the place to discuss the patriot act so forgive me for sticking to the original topic. (If you wish to debate that make a different thread.) The original purpose was show the social authoritarianism is not just limited to the "RINO" republicans it is a big problem among the entire GOP base.
Even by your own veiws expressed the patriot act is an authoritarian peice of legislation. Good, bad, or indifferent thats what it is. You are a social authoritarian so unless you are calling yourself a RINO I think the case is proven.

Authoritarianism for ANY stripe of nominal republican is small potatoes compared to the liberal left - who live and breathe big government - they want to control everything about everyone's life EXCEPT abortion.
Calling the Patriot Act, which was approved both in it's original version and revision by the overwhelming majority of congressional republicans and democrats, goes beyond uninformed to just plain stupid. It was created in response to 9/11, which caused the biggest death toll on the american mainland since the War of 1812. Once again, the fundamental duty of a government is to protect the country, especially in wartime, and during ALL US wars the government >>>>ALWAYS<<<< has had to take extraordinary measures to protect the people and country. Any position which holds that we should just let the islamofascists have the conditions which allow them to kill men, women, and children in rows belongs squarely in the "suicide pact" interpretation of the constitution.
