What has gone wrong with American democracy?

Make only those with a vested interest in the country allowed to vote. If you have no vested interest you will vote for whoever gives you money for nothing.

Simpler to simply confine the vote to those who produce something, and cut out anyone who makes a profit out of other people's labour.

Typical belief of envious socialists...the fact is that most of the new rich in the US are first generation rich. See that guy driving down the road in his truck with half a dozen lawn mowers, weed eaters, and edgers in a trailer behind him....he is making money hand over fist and represents the new rich in this country. The guy who cuts my grass got to this country 6 years ago and started with a very old pick up truck that he drove across the border from mexico, a push mower, and a weed eater... he now has 7 new trucks on the road and they make him about $325,000 a year. His sons will be old enough to join the business in a real way in a few years...it will become a generational business and will make the family millionaires...and every one of them have cut and bagged grass in the hot sun, trimmed bushes, and dug holes to plant trees and shrubs...

Well, you weirdoes inevitably live in a weird world, but I have never envied anyone, especially Al Capone or the mafia. You poor sods are sick! Very few of the rich are not fifth generation plus, obviously - that's how capitalism works. What other system could possibly produce a fat incompetent like Trumf, give him money and arrogance, and then make him Fuhrer? Surely even you extreme dimoes can see that the few new crooks make it harder for more honest people to get a decent living? Well, no, you can't, of course, because you've been brainwashed. Do you know that only 9% on welfare are able bodied workers, most often between jobs. The rest are old, disabled, or in a working household but at poverty wages.

Receiving welfare benefits (2010 statistics):

53% Age 65 and up
20% Disabled (non-elderly)
18% In a working household (non-elderly, non-disabled)​

I think calling them parasites is a callous attitude. What do you think should be done with those people who can't work?

Given normal inflation, even real wage reduction can be presented as wages on the rise, and if there wasn't at least some improvement in capitalism after the last time it played true to form, there'd be trouble. Sounds a bit like German wages in 1941 under their Fuhrer though, and the tide will soon be rendering a great deal of land uninhabitable, even if it hasn't been turned into desert. Enjoy. All being well I'll be dead by then.

Make our economy strong and you can afford charity. Charity that the economy cant afford only depresses the country. Ask Sweden about that. Or Venezuela.

Your post doesn't make much sense to me. You obviously want the government in the hands of Republicans. And you don't seem to want welfare of any kind. Yet you say making our economy strong will allow affordable charity. (By charity, I presume you mean welfare.) But why would Republicans change their mind about welfare even if the economy was strong. When taxes are continually being lowered as the government is doing, where is this “charity” coming from?

Pundits are saying our economy is strong now, yet you still haven't given a path for the survival of the elderly, the disabled, the temporary unemployed, and poverty wages. The current conservative thrust is still to eliminate welfare and lower taxes.

Envy of the rich is a common argument that for the most part is not valid. I think the problem is that the super wealthy are wielding power with that money. Wealthy candidates and PACs can overwhelm the media with distortions to gain elections and sway thinking.

Using wealth to buy yachts and art, etc is harmless, but using it to buy power and control over people is not harmless.
