Last week Congressman John Sullivan (Republican - Tulsa, OK) stated at a town hall meeting that his insurance carrier hasn't yet paid $24,000 for his stint at the Betty Ford Clinic for alcohol rehabilitation. Perhaps if he'd sought treatment at any of the number of facilities in Tulsa that charge half or less that amount he wouldn't have this issue. Of course, the stars and elite prefer Palm Springs, even at more than double the price. The issue with his insurance carrier is with his government health insurance, the government health insurance that's good for him, but really bad for us.
He made that remark before the Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Although many members of that community don't even earn $24,000 in gross annual income, I sure they really felt his pain at this injustice.
At least he's fortunate he didn't seek counsel from Senator (Doctor) Tom Coburn (Republican - Oklahoma) before heading off to the desert playground. He would have been instructed to just go next door and ask his neighbor to help, the same advise he dispensed in a previous town hall meeting to a weeping woman with a seriously injured husband. Maybe that's what John Sullivan needs to do now to resolve his unpaid medical bill... ask his neighbors to organize some bake sales and car washes.
