I spend a lot of time in Indonesia and virtually everyone lacks the skill of projecting the consequences of a series of actions. For example, a young girl doesn't like school, so she drops out. With no skill, no good job. So they marry some guy who is equally poor and he treats her like shit. Inability to project the consequences of your decisions.
The US has a large number of people who think the same way. They can't understand that a generous social welfare program is going to a) be a disincentive to work, and b) shift the tax burden to people who are working and productive. These consequences of an expensive welfare program will cause the government to accrue debt and eventually the whole system will collapse.
As a footnote: these people are not stupid - they can learn a second language if they live in a mixed neighborhood. They just lack the power of projective reasoning.
