Why yes, he does. He, like many scientists , suggest that chemicals in some way bonded into compounds that were capable of reproducing themselves. The fact that no one has managed to do this in a lab does not mean that it is impossible.

And if it happened, it was by definition a natural, and not a "miraculous" process. Nor can it be assumed that it happened only once.
