Parents Stunt Disabled Daughter's Growth

I can understand the parents' decision. But, it concerns me because, there are always risks involved with surgery, and pain. I see unnecesary surgery on someone who can't connsent as mutilation. I can't imagine I would have done it. But, the ethics committee had more information than I do, I am confident they made the best decision in this particular case.

I would tend to agree that surgery on an unwilling person who was capable of making the decision would amount to mutilation. In this instance, I am not so sure the actions could be viewed in that light. In the end, I suppose it is the parents and the doctors who have to be convinced they are doing the right thing. And I am sure there is still more to the whole process than even the exhaustive blogs, print articles, new media profiles, etc have delivered for public consumption.
