For all their crowing about a couple gubernatorial races, I notice the right is suspiciously quiet about Doug Hoffman's surprise defeat in NY 23. I mean, wasn't he the candidate backed by Sarah Palin and all the conservative talk show hosts? Instead, a Democrat has taken over the seat for the first time in 100 years.

On a night when conservatives expected a landmark victory in New York's 23rd congressional district, the movement's anointed candidate, Doug Hoffman, instead went down in a startling defeat to Democrat Bill Owens. The official Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava, had dropped out days before and thrown her support to Owens after the conservative movement backed Hoffman in a campaign to destroy her, attacking her as a closet socialist with a cynical, hidden agenda--the same terms they have used to demonize President Barack Obama.

Marketing is definitely NOT a future-option for Sarah Barracuda.

Her Night-Of-The-Living-Dud action-figure didn't do well, at all!!!!

This loss is a big defeat for Sarah and her kind ..I wonder how come none of the wingnuts want to talk about it?

I know, I'll remind them of what happened:

Democrat Bill Owens defeated Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in New York's 23rd congressional district special election, 49%-45% (with 92% of the voting in), becoming the first Democrat to control the district since at least the 1890s.

The results came in overnight and was finally called around 1:00 am ET.

It was something of an upset after it was widely considered a likely victory for Hoffman after the Republican pick, Dede Scozzafava, dropped out of the race over the weekend. Scozzafava did, however, endorse Owens -- though it was unclear what effect that would have.

It's a victory also for the DCCC, which has now won two competitive special elections in once-traditionally conservative Upstate New York since Obama has become president.

Republicans now control just two of 29 districts in New York State -- one Upstate and one in Long Island. They have lost six districts Upstate just since 2006. They control zero seats in all of New England.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.....allow ME!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

"Lawyer and retired Air Force Capt. Bill Owens won the special election Tuesday in northern New York in which the Republican candidate withdrew over the weekend under pressure from the party's right wing and GOP heavyweights endorsed the Conservative Party nominee.

Owens defeated Hoffman despite a voter registration edge of 45,000 for Republicans and big-name endorsements for Hoffman from former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, former Republican Sen. Fred Thompson and others."

Grabbing at straws a bit....

The total of the Repub and the Conserv was more than the democrat got in this race.
If the republican party had done things right in NY 23, Hoffman would have prevailed. Heck, Scuzzafala received 5% of the vote. That would have gone to Hoffman if the replublicans would have got behind Hoffman from the beginning.

Now you tout that it was a humiliating defeat. However, Obama, who spent most of the weekend and made numerous appearances in VA and Jersey, could nto get it done. The most loved person in all the world.

LOL

Oh, let the little boys crow...they've had nothing...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to brag about except those erroneous/totally fabricated B.S. incideos lies that Rush Limbaugh keep spewing  So big WHOOPIE... two republicans got elected to their specific areas...OMG, the world may be coming to an end ;)

"Doug Hoffman lost his election last night. He was supported by a plurality of talk radio entertainers, and a majority of former half-term governors of Alaska, but it wasn't enough. An obscure quirk of constitutional law says you also need votes from voters.

This is the same cruel hurdle that tripped up three of his other biggest supporters, Gary Bauer, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani, all of whom ran for President of the United States, but failed the "getting votes" test, because everyone hates their guts."

Notice how only other liberal idiots responded to this thread?

No one else cares....

Hoffman, a third party candidate, came from so far behind that the fact that he almost won is still bad for Democrats. And it has not been a hundred years since a democrat was in a seat there.

But what we think does not matter. What matters is what the democrats who are poised to vote for or against the health care bill think will happen to them if they support a wildly unpopular bill.

hardly a 3rd party candidate, he was a republican...Republicans just ate their own.. I work for a real third party, this was no "third party"
