We throw the state officials some bones so they think we allow them to provide secular oversight of our Christian school, but they don't really have any right to overrule God or Christians whose religious beliefs and expressions are protected by the US Constitution. Nearly 50 years ago in North Carolina leftist state officials sued our state Christian schools intending to throw Christians in jail for refusing to allow secular officials to provide oversights and controls to force us to adopt their standards, beliefs (evolution, et al) and curricula.
I was there in the courtroom when the judge threatened dozens of pastors that he would be throwing them in jail if we lost our case. We did lose our case, but no pastor went to jail while the case was appealed. Meanwhile, a few pastors, including our own pastor and administrator of our Christian school, lobbied the legislature to change the laws so that Christian schools would not be forced to submit to unreasonable and illogical state demands. The pastors were successful. The law was changed, and the case was dismissed as moot because of that.
The NC government now has only minimal oversight of Christian schools in NC, largely related to commonsense fire and safety rules.
