A GOP congressman admitted that he and other lawmakers probing President Joe Biden and his son's actions to build up an impeachment inquiry were aware the key witness testimony in the case was shaky.

With the star witness in the impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden facing felonies for cooking up a bogus story shaped by high-level Russian intelligence contacts pinning the president and his son Hunter for taking $5 million apiece in bribes — Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) came forward to acknowledge that they knew it wasn't solid well in advance.

With Alexander Smirnov being accused of telling tall tales to the FBI, only to turn around and admit that "officials with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story" about Hunter Biden — Buck, who isn't running for reelection, appeared on CNN's "The Source" with Kaitlan Collins stressed that the revelation wasn't a surprise to him.

They knew the man wasn't credible yet went all over the news for years saying he was the most credible and honest.

This whole thing stinks to high heaven. I would love to know if anyone paid that informant and if so, who paid him for his lies knowing it was lies?

This is classic republican weaponization of our government. They do it every time they get majority of either the senate or house.

It goes back to the Clinton years. The only time we don't have these witch hunts is when republicans don't have control of the house or senate.

They peddle lies, they forged/altered documents in one of the Benghazi investigations. They hold close door hearings then lie about what was said. When the transcript and truth comes out, the republicans just move on to another lie.

These people don't belong in our government. They belong in prison.

But an hour later, Republicans sent out a second version of the letter, also obtained by TNR. This time, the entire paragraph about the informant had been deleted.

James Comer, a key impeachment figure as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said the FBI form that memorialized the informant’s uncorroborated and now-discredited allegation was both “very crucial” and “very credible.” Just last month, Rep. Jim Jordan, another key impeachment figure as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, described the FBI form as “the most corroborating evidence we have.”
