It's time for a draft!!!!!

Absolutely, let's bring back the draft. It's really easy to sit back in our comfortable homes and root for the volunteers fighting the latest military adventure. To go and fight ourselves is quite another thing.

While we're at it, let's have no exclusions or deferments. Everyone serves, no one is exempt, and anyone can be sent to the front lines. That way, the pols will think twice about getting us into an unnecessary war. If only the poor and powerless serve, then it's too easy to send them out to kill terrorists or commies, or whoever the bad guy du jour happens to be.


Further, let's not have any wars fought on credit. If we're going to send troops, then the folks back home can pony up and pay for the war as we go along. If we're not willing to do that, then we're not ready to go to war.

During peace time, the soldiers can build levies, fix roads, clear brush, and do all of the other jobs that need doing but don't turn a profit.

Or better yet, do like Israel does and arm every able bodied person, train them, and get them ready to fight.

Who knows how to fight terrorists better than Israel, after all?

I served in a large peace-time army that had the draft. Even though it was very large and growing (they re-opened Fort Polk LA. during that time), There was no idle soldiers who need to be sent out to do the things you mention. When infantry, armor, and artillery are not engaged in maneuvers, combat training, or maintaining the equipment, they are otherwise occupied maintaining the post. All others, medical, cooks, mechanics, clerical, supply, are busy with those daily duties. Even with a large peace time army, you work from before the sun comes up and put in very long days.

Well that certainly did wonders for the Vietnam War...rallied all of the war haters against the war mongers and united this country against the war and they {the powers that be} finally saw the light and pulled us out of that heinous mess!!!

Ya, that certainly worked well in that instance...maybe just what we need to push us out of Afghanistan & Iraq

yes worked great....lots of young kids died with no choice, lots of rich kids stayed in the states ...by choice...because they had money or power ( and no I am not just talking about Bush)

But would make people less go to war, if they knew there kid could be drafted...

Young men who passed would be drafted and those who didn't couldn't get a job. How would we pay for it or even continue to exist as a viable society?

what is boils down too is that this country is terrified of one thing and one thing only.....A DRAFT!!!!!! It scares the hell out of people in this country because we all know that if someone in our population tries their damnedest to get out of it they will be labeled a COWARD which they would be....and rightfully have their citizenship stripped from them for trying to weasel their way out of it....I SAY BRING IT BACK......Let's see who the real true patriots are in this country. I my opinion your constitutional rights stop at the refusal of getting drafted by any means......I know Liberals and conservatives would be running for the hills but no need to run after them....Take away their citizenship and tell Mexico and Canada to stand by and take an influx of new citizens...Put this "Lets send more troops here and there and No we don't need to send more troops anywhere" to rest once and for all.

Actually LOOSECHANGE your idea for a draft could become a tremendous benefit to our Nation. We could eliminate the citizens who by habit damage our economy and harm our country. We need to draft only radical liberals , fascist , socialist , and statist. This group(misfits) will never step up and fight for America , they are too busy trying to Destroy America .Conservatives and other PRO AMERICA citizens will enlist because they see it as duty. Large numbers of the "MISFITS " would be drafted and shipped out, we must give this group the same limited support as their hero, Barrack Hussien Obama is now giving our VOLUNTEERS in AFGH. War. This will insure that most will not return and thus SAVE AMERICA!! And also reduce future welfare and health care cost! What say you?

C'mon...there has to be an exclusion for people with real physical-disabilities.

I'm not a big-fan o' "hiring"/turning-loose the Aryan-boys, either. Whether we like it, or not, our Best & Brightest also serve as U.S.-ambassadors.​

Providing the Army Corp Of Engineers R&D-opportunities (levees, dams, temp-bridges) is one-thing, but combat-troops should not be used as slave-labor! That's not what they're trained-for.

Ya' want janitors? PAY for 'em!! It's not-as-if we're (consistantly) short of laborers, in the U.S.​

From (around) the mid-sixties, 'til we got outta 'Nam....when you went for your physical, you did so, and (typically) took their bus back home. BUT...there (also) existed the Marine-factor!!

After (all) physicals were completed, the Marines came in....had everyone line-up....and, had them count-off, by threes. Every third-person got hauled-off, STRAIGHT TO BOOT...IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!! There was very-little concern over drug-usage, when (more) warm-bodies were required!!

I think the Marines were fairly-confident o' their marijuana-detox efforts. They never (really) allowed much free-time....to get high....in boot-camp.​
