Internet Tax On Its Way ...

I don't think they're talking about a federal sales tax. What is being discussed is all retailers, regardless of whether they're on the internet or physically in your state, all collect the same sales taxes.
Yes thats the one they keep pushing. Im kust conjecturing with the other basing itnon govt walking away from internet control. Might not be so hard a sell to have a 1 cent per sale to "maintain" the network.

If that's what it's actually used for, it wouldn't be such a bad idea. Taxes have a way of going into the general fund.

I think there's some confusion about this tax ....

It is not a sales tax for items sold on the Internet ... it's a tax on consumption of bandwidth. In other words, if you're just using the Internet for information collection, you pay a tax. If you use it to cruise porn sites, it's a tax. If you use it to access Facebook, there's a tax.

It's not about retail sales ...

I understood it to be a rider, a proposal to require online retailers to collect state sales taxes, and an internet bandwith tax as you described.

Congress often uses riders to pass bills that wouldn't make it on their own.

Well thats what it would be said but of course it all goes in the general fund. And those costa are already budgeted for. Fin and games.

What about po folks ? BO wants free internet for them. They will kill the internet because its what they do in their endless quest for money to buy votes.

That's a different tax proposal ... there are actually 6 different proposals, but they can be broken down into two groups: Internet sales tax, and Internet access tax.

I wonder which, if any, of those six proposals have any chance of passage?

Really hard to say. People are a little interested in it3 which is all thats held the pols off. I dont know if theyll take a shot before November. If they are sure its a bloodbath in the fall they might figuring they cant hurt themselves. If after it will depend on how many conservatives wind up in office.

He thinks it will bring shoppers back to brick and mortars. I would like to think it will force onliners to reduce prices as they are too close to normal retail.

then you have no idea what your talking about...Stores already pay the tax, and also have to pay workers to actuly run the store..clean the store, sales people, check out people, managers...But you know its just a bunch of jobs you can get rid of and then blame Obama for...then call them lazy for not getting a new job

Stores dont pay the tax customers do. It requires people to run ebiz too. The only significant difference is real estate.

Yes they do pay the sales tax...and in order to compeat with the net, the store has to lower costs to equal out that sales tax..just to break even in cost the the person buying. Meaning in order to have a level playing field, the store has to pay the cost of that tax, or have a higher price then the online site. And if you think the cost or running a store is the same as a online store minus the cost of the building you seem to have a poor grasp on one of the 2 types or both. Im lucky that while I am in sales my store does not have a great online place we need to compeat against due to the specific industry...But others that I have worked in , you spend 3 hours talking to someone about what the best system is, the best way to do it, the advantages and disadvantages of each...and are paid to have knowledge, spend lots of time training and learning everything anyone could ever want to know...and then they just go home and buy the thing online because they can always sell it for less, because we do their work for them. Its one reason I do not shop online unless its something I am unable to find anyplace at a real store.

Retail has to have many locations on costly real estate. Ebiz can use cheaper realestate and.needs.one. Clearly a retail concern with warehoused inventory needs a online presense to serve tofsys vsried custimer base. They would do well to refer cystomets with questions to the retail site then the business stays in house. Never saw anyone un retail try matching cost though Im sure some do.
The genue us out of the bottle on ebiz and only the government can kill that. Might aswell find a way to adapt or go the way of sealing wax and buggy whips.

Your hypocrisy is stunning ....

1) You want to add taxes so that brick & mortar operation can compete with online stores.

2) You don't want to decrease taxes so that American businesses can compete with foreign businesses.

... and the most stunning part? You don't even see the hypocrisy.

your lack of understanding is not shocking..

1. Taxing both things equally is about making a even playing field, not punishing a store for having a building where they actuly have people work. But Its odd, your in favor of Punishing real stores by saying they should have to pay the tax, but not online...Who is the Hypoctit?

2. Only one small problem...I am in favor of lowering Busines taxes...But also removing loopholes to make a more fair tax stem with a lower rate, but more having to actuly pay the fair rate. Also anyone who knows anything knows that the tax rate for companies in the US is a high percent, and then actually fairly low for what they actually pay to the point of big companies making billions and paying nothing or near nothing.

I know, a fair tax system is evil. And good job deciding what my view was of Buisness taxes...without all that thinking and knowing anything about my view part.
