Google builds its own self-driving car, sans steering wheel

I'm not too sure I like the idea of a self driving car with no stirring wheel. For me that would be giving all control over the car. Maybe they feel this computer is capable of handling all sorts fo situations including a collision of some kind. But for me there is still nothing better then human know how. So, although I like the idea of a self driving car, I don't like the idea of giving all control over the car itself. I feel that there should still be a stirring wheel so the individual can get control of the car if needed.

Why cant these planes go pilotless?

Why cant these Ships go captainless?

I would suppose because it's easier to track a car down on a road rather than a plane or a cruise in the middle of the ocean. When a self-driving car crashes or creates an accident, it's a lot easier to solve this issue rather than a self-piloting plane carrying hundreds of people crashing or going out of route as well as a cruise.
