Good News for McCain

This begs the question of why though.

Are we moving in the wrong direction because of the policies Bush followed?
Are we moving in the wrong direction because Obama has been leading in the polls?
Are we moving in the wrong direction because McCain is not leading in some polls?

This polls reminds me of congressional approval ratings. Most often we hear about how they are so low, but when you ask people what they think about their own congressperson, usually the response will not be so negative.

Yeah, that is why most polls should be largely ignored. For example, I think the US is heading in the wrong direction because of socialist policies. Most of the ignorant left will likely think we are heading in the wrong direction because of a lack of socialist policies.

So the net result is we both thing we're heading in the wrong direction, but the wrong direction changes based on who you ask.

Andy- Forget about the abortion issue, there are much bigger fish to fry here.

If you don't understand how the US needs to work together with the world then you need to see the program.

You're right that your congress has lost the ability to work together and the program makes that point. They need to learn how to work together again.

The working together with the world the program talked about had nothing to do with aid.

If you think your country which is one of the most capitalist countries on the face of the earth is suffering because it has become too socialist then I won't argue with you any more on that, then at least I won't have to hear you repeat it again and again.

Come on Annnndddddydyyyyyyy...............

But at least you acknowledge that you are heading in the wrong direction now, even though you blame socialism for it.

I've taked with you a lot. You are an intellegent person. Why play dumb?

The question... "Do you feel American is moving in the right direction" is asked in the context of current leadership, policies & circumstances.

No one asks... Do you think America is moving in the right or wrong direction in relationship to who is up or down in the polls to maybe someday be the possible President.:D

And everyone knows Congress is going to continue to have low polling numbers until one of two things happen. A) The Executive & majority in Congress are of the same Party... or B) There's a filibuster/veto proof majority in Congress.

Until one of those two things happens Congress gets hit by all sides. Libs don't think Dems are being Lib enough. Cons don't like Dems. Libs don't like Pubbies. Cons don't think Pubbies are Con enough. And everybody doesn't like the fact that there are partisan political maneuvers that lock up real change & movement.

This is exactly why the Dems will win the Executive and pick up more seats in Congress.

Top Gun, I do these polls usually 3 days a week. 3 differnt polling places email me tracking polls.

It alwasy asks if I feel the country is going in the right direction, or off track and I always say no and off track. It never asks me why I think so or give me a list to pick from. Bush is not the reason why I feel like I do, congress is to some point at least part of it.

The way they ask the questions, a great deal of the results in my poll could easily lead you to think I want Obama.......and of course nothing could be further from the truth.

There is a sugestion box at the end of the poll, and I always tell them they should give you a list to pick from when asking if we feel the country is on the wrong track. then I give them examples....

I used to suggest they add more in the selection of emotion. The old polls you were either happy with a politician or unhappy, you were a dem or repub

now they ask if you are unhappy or really unhappy and if you are a dem are you a strong dem or repub. so they do take advice hopefully they will eventually ask you questions like.

do you think the country is on the right track

if you say no, then why

the country is leaning too left
the country is leaning too right
the country lost its balls
the country listens to idiots in europe to much
the congress is out of touch

then sub colums.

if you picked congress is out of touch then they can ask

is congress listening to small radical groups to much
is congress ignoring terrorism to much
is congress more worried about their own raises and re elections than the public

that would give more information but it would make the poll take longer.

i would rather take more time in a poll and have my data accurate than the current polls where it looks like I am unhappy with my current president.

Point I was making is that everyone has a different reason for why the country is moving in the "wrong direction." Some may think it is because of Bush, some may think Bush is doing a great job but dislike Congress and the partisanship. If there is no follow up as to why people think the country is moving in the wrong direction, then the poll pretty meaningless if you ask me.

And many people will look at current events and could come up with two different reasons why the country is moving in the wrong direction.

Example 1) The country is moving in the wrong direction because we are bailing out corporations who make bad business decisions.

Example 2) The country is moving in the wrong direction because Bush has followed a bad foreign policy and got us involved in two wars and is threatening a third.

Both of these examples are based on current policies of leadership, context, and circumstances, yet they are completely different.

So sad that nobody seems to be interested in last night's AC360. It would furnish everyone with some talking points to begin with as opposed to just listening to a bunch of mindless electioneering on boths sides.

Todays pposting of the composite of all the polls is:

RCP National Average 46.5 for Obama and 43.9 for McCain.

Some obervations: that is very close.

All the polls are biased either on one direction or the other. The ones that are biased for O make his numbers higher. The ones that are biased for M make his numbers higher.

So that begs the question - are more of them biased for O or for M?

If more are biased for O then he is not really doing that well. If more are biased for M then he is not really doing that well.

Only three... :)

I was responding to the example given. In the Polling question: "Do you think the country is on the right track" there is no reasonable argument at all that question is not a DIRECT question about current Bush policy.

And the obvious reason for that is that the country right now is being forced to move in the Bush (again read that current) direction. Everyone knows that the leadership in Congress opposes that direction over and over again.

Now when you go to the question of Congresses approval that's the hard poll to read because there are extreme nuances in who's who and what's what.

Is the country on the right track?

NO

I answer NO

but it seriously has zero to do with Bush, well maybe not zero. I wish he had more back bone, I wish he would say no to more spending. I wish he would slap Pelosi in the face and tell her to shut up. I wish he would put the libs in congress on ignore and just listen to military when it comes to fighting wars.

it really has to do with so many things, but Bush is not on my mind when I say NO the country is going in the wrong direction.

A really strong religous person doing that pole might say no because of gay marriage, to them that is the wrong track.

there are a million reasons someone could think we are on the wrong track without blaming bush. Not everyone hates him as much as the libs.

and yes only three a week I am glad I dont have to do them more, they are boring. But I feel like its important because I dont fit in the regular groups

I am a union member but I really cant stand liberals

I am a minority who hates A. Action

I am a moderatly poor person who thinks the rich are over taxed.

Then you have been perfectly programmed.

You are also an honorable person of character who made a good observation about why people would say we are on the wrong track.

Abomination- So why don't you tell us how much the rich pay in taxes. Not the per centage then pay of the taxes but how much they pay out of their earnings. That is if you are feeling so sorry for them.

Let's say for a start that the average CEO makes 200 times what his lowest paid worker makes and let's say that his lowest paid worker makes $30,000. So the CEO is making $600,000, and let's say he is paying about 20% in taxes because he gets lots of loopholes and tax dodges so he can keep the rest. He still keeps $480,000. So how many guys making $30,000 are going to have to pay 20% of their income which will reduce them to a paltry $24,000 so they will equal what the CEO paid in taxes?

That's real easy to figure out and it doesn't require any math, just in case you brain is already full. Now how fair is that?

Dubious claim that deductions will automatically reduce his tax rate to 20%. While this may be the case for a few, it is not the majority.

And given your example, the CEO pays $120,000 in taxes, while the other guy only pays $6,000.

If you make 30k, you're right there at the poverty line and NOT going to pay anything in income taxes... about 40% of America pays nothing into the system.

And the righties like you cry and complain because people at the poverty liine don't pay enough taxes. You Americans are whacked right out of your everloving capitalist minds.

But what gets me is the little guy who doesn't have a pot to piss in gets right up there and screams and hollers about the poor people not paying enough tax too. Small brains are so easy to program.
