Does The Olympic Games promote Peace?

I must be as old as Johnny .I remember the Helsinki Games in 1952 which was the one before my city Melbourne in 1956. We did have the same sports, Track and field, Swimming ,etc.
Also I attended the Moscow Games in 1980 when some Western countries boycotted the Games because the USSR attack Alganistan?. Of cource no other country would do that would they. I attended but wore a black tie in protest.

We are both lucky to still be breathing air out of the atmosphere!

yes Johnny I agree we must be getting old to remember the 195os. At least we do not have demetra. I even even have pictures of some games event back them and they look a lot like modern day events.

Stevox. That will depedn on the Country. The Melbourne Games stated in November that our summer. London does not seem to have any summer so I do not know a change of date would help.

Well August draws TV ratings for those games. U.K isnt a capitolist country unlike America is. U.K dont use ads for making money or Ratings for TV revinue. Britain has a mixed range of television and radio. The BBC like the ABC here is government owned However there are commercal stations. I do not know who has the rights to the Olympic Games in Britain but in Australia it is a commercial television network. By the way the government party in Britain is called Conservative.

Being attack is not good. But the reaction can often bring peace and unity. I was in Munich during the attack. I did not much o0f it because I could not speak German and my host could not speak English. However on heard it on an English radio news that night. The reaction of the people at the Closing Ceremony united us all as we commemorated those who died. We were united in making sure the Games continued. There has been no attack since except the one on at outside venue in Atlanta,
I am not sure what intellegence the British have but I am not sure an armed response will bring peace. Shooting down planes in civilian areas is dangerous. I think we should be prepared bot not over react.

Not shooting down planes tends to end badly...you may recall some event like that...You let the guided missile aim at its target...maybe next we should not shoot down a missile because it may land someplace populated? Also the Response to the attack in Germany was not peace...it was a bloody take down and kiling of those involved...not peace. And no attack since then...accept Atalanta...is kinda a big accept.. Meaning in a event not even held yearly...we have had 2 successful to some degree attacks in the last 40 years...who knows how many stopped...and terror attacks are at high levels right now....so we should do nothing?

remember how cool it was when the amateur USA Hockey team beat the Ruskie Army team ?
it had meaning. how about the Jamaican bobsledders ? its just another meet/race/match now.

And the fact is that the US hockey team played what was basically...Pros...Like I said always have been pros. Also I am from Minnesota...the State that almost beat the Russians ourself if you look at all the MN connections on that team....The State that loves Hockey like a Canadian...so yea...I recall that.

It was attack on people watching the Olympics that failed because someone found it first...lack of success does not equal lack of trying. But if you want to live in fairy tail land and think no one would want to have a terror attack on the Olympics...dig that hole in the sand for your head all you want.
