Pay-Go is a SCAM for 3 BIG reasons:

1. The programs ALWAYS go over budget

2. The expected revenue from Taxes is ALWAYS short of expectations

3. The Democrats only invoke Pay-Go rules when they feel like it and have loopholes galore available when they do use the rule.

Look at the Democrat CONGRESS voting record since they took over... WORSE than Bush on SPENDING!!

you guys do know that paygo means nothing gets in the budget unless it's paid for? and the last time we did it we ended up with a budget surplus?

since mccain has no plan to cut spending, the deficit wouldn't get any better under him- i'd rather see the money going to domestic programs than more and more and more wars.

libsmooshie: i guess you do make more than 200 grand a year? don't you have something better to do? :)

finally, according to this NONPARTISAN site, run by STATISTICIANS (rather than the conservative national journal, run by journalists), obama is only the 11th most liberal senator. oops again!

Obama has no plan to cut spending either. According to his own campaign promises spending will increase by over 300 billion a year (on top of the current Bush budget) under him for a 5 year period.

Now, ending the Bush tax cuts, and returning to Clinton like high tax levels (called the largest tax increase in modern history by the democrats mind you) will only generate 278 billion over the same 5 year period.

That is quite a gap that needs to be accounted for. Add to that, Obama has now put forth legislation in the Senate to send 800 billion to the UN to fight poverty worldwide. So talk of spending money at home instead of abroad is a bit dubious for his supporters to claim in my view.

Further, The CBO budget baseline already incorporates the extra revenue due to higher tax rates, so the
end of the Bush tax cuts won’t pay for the proposed spending and still satisfy Pay-Go.

i'm aware he won't cut spending. but hikes in income taxes for those making more than $200,000 a year, higher capital gains tax, and reinstituting the estate tax will at least help offset the cost. and yes, my family DOES pay income tax, and yes, if i'm ever fortunate enough to crack the upper-middle class, i would be ecstatic to pay the higher rates in exchange for all the benefits of living here.

mccain plans to increase spending AND cut taxes EVEN MORE, while fighting at least two wars, if not more.

conservatives who don't want to pay (higher) taxes for the good of their country and fellow citizens should go to some ultracapitalist, market-worshipping, money-obsessed hellhole like singapore, and see how much they enjoy walking the free market tightrope with no safety net.

I'm having a little trouble with something... correct me if i'm wrong, but from your posts it seems you think all or most conservatives are obscenely rich... if that's the case... then why do people call us hillbillies in other threads? I'm just wondering which it is cause i'll tell you my parents (i'm not out of the house yet) don't make anywhere close to $200000 but are quite conservative. I would also like to know why most of hollywood is liberal when they make disgusting amounts of money for doing essentially nothing. One last thing before I close for the night.... smaller government = less money being spent = lower taxes. What does obama want? bigger government and he wants to punish excellence to pay for it. Ya know what happens when companies are taxed more? they lower wages and the WORKING CLASS pays for it. one way or another you're going to give uncle sam his due... it's just a matter of how much he's going to take and if Obama's elected, it'll be 300 billion extra. thank you and good night

Increased capital gains tax yield lower amounts of money. That is historically proven. People making $200,000 plus a year already are basically paying all of the income tax in this country as it is. The estate tax was never repealed either.. not sure where you are getting that from...

I can tell you, I am in this category, and I am anything but ecstatic that I people tell me I do not pay my fair share, and now feel compelled to increase my burden.

Cutting taxes does generate additional revenue. The Bush tax cuts saw CBO numbers beat their estimated projections after the cuts were made. Further, Obama already promises to expand the war in Afghanistan, and has openly talked about Pakistan as well. And if you think the next President will not have to deal with Iran somehow (regardless of who wins) you are mistaken.

I have no problem paying taxes. My problem is that you tell me paying more in taxes than most people make in a year is not my fair share. And for the record, there is no safety net here either...

What is it about Socialism that you like so much?

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on the objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."

James Madison

And Sen Obama is not even proposing something that one could pretend falls under the general welfare clause since citizens of foreign countries would not be included in that. At a time when we need cuts in government spending as the only way to balance the budget and reduce the national debt he is acting recklessly and unconstitutionally.

Isn't there some oath that a President must take to uphold the constitution?

Supporters of Conservatism tend to be small business owners and wall street employees (at any income level) - people who understand how money works.

Supporters of liberalism tend to be people who have demonstrated that they don't understand how to earn a living within their circumstances or elites who I assume feel guilty.

All of this is outside of his campaign promises which all told already account for over $1.4 trillion additional spending over five years. Now he promises to pay for this with tax increases that are similar to the Clinton levels, but what he ignores is that the Clinton tax increases only generated 270 billion over the same five year period.

(Side note: This figure only accounts for 111 of 180 proposals that he has put forth, so the actual figure is most likely much higher.)

Quite the shortfall that no Obama supporters seems to want to address, other than the "Bush spent a lot of money" retort.
