Fords have but on the whole US cars sold in the US are largely not a patch on Japanese cars for engineering and not a patch on European cars for desirability

actuly while I was over there I saw more Fords then any Japaneses car.

Yeah, sure. You need to read Consumer Reports. They liked the Porsche Boxter, but give poor marks to Mercedes, Range Rover, and BMW. Ferraris, Bentleys and Aston Martins cost well over $100,000.

If you want a dependable car, you want a Toyota, a Subaru or a Lexus. Some Americans cars are very well rated, others are not.
