Does anyone still doubt that the goal of unions is to end capitalism and establish some sort of communism?

Capitalism as an ideal is a very good way to distribute goods and services to the People.

It is a common misconception that Capitalism and the Free Market are one in the same but they are two very distinct concepts. Capitalism is a social system based on individual rights, it strictly limits the role of government to protecting individual rights, and all property is privately held.

The Free Market is an economic system where goods and services are exchanged free of government interference and price is determined by supply and demand. The only restrictions placed on a Free Market are laws necessary to protect individuals from force and fraud.

Capitalism is a social system, the Free Market is an economic system. Because Capitalism requires a Free Market economy and vice versa, it is very common for people to confuse one in terms of the other. However, they are two very separate and distinct concepts.

As for the "drug trade" being held up as an example of "pure capitalism", this is false. The drug trade takes place inside the Black Market. Although property is privately held, the black market is not based on individual rights and it does not limit the role of government. Additionaly, the black market is not governed by laws that protect individuals from force and/or fraud. Therefore, the Black Market should not be confused with the Free Market or Capitalism.

This is one of many unfortunate instances where public use and understanding of the terms capitalism and free market have blurred the true meaning of each term. As a result, in everyday conversation you cannot expect the listener to understand the difference in meanings.

A similar example is the terms Republic and Democracy. Virtually all countries who claim to have a democratic system actually have a Representative Democracy, where the people elect someone to represent and vote for them on various issues.

The terms Communism and Socialism are also often terms thought to be interchangeable.

While the confusion over definition is regrettable, for the most part it is rather esoteric. What really irritates me is when people use words that never have had an exact definition, such as terrorist, rebel, blood-thirst, etc. Many people (especially politicians) use these terms to intentionally deceive the listener. It is a great way to avoid or muddle any serious discussion on a particular subject. The use of these terms comes in handy when you don't have a good understanding of the subject or a good answer to a question.

Capitolism= Rich People and Markets control the price of everything

Steve, ALMOST EVERYTHING YOU SAY IS WRONG. The correct information can be found at Wikipedia. I'd suggest you spend a day doing some research and staff off the forum. I am not a teacher, and I am not going to teach you the difference between Venezuela and North Korea... but you really should learn.

Learn?? I KNOW!!! The People benefit in Venezuela,China and North Korea. Read your rights as a soviet citizen.

Interesting. Written by a professor at Bucknell University, my undergraduate alma mater

The Soviet Union was Communist, as North Korea is today.

"Socialist property in the U.S.S.R. exists either in the form of state property (the possession of the whole people), or in the form of cooperative and collective-farm property (property of a collective farm or property of a cooperative association). "

Venezuela has none of that. It is federal presidential republic, where everyone can vote, different political parties actively function, people can own land and own their own businesses. In many areas the government controls various industries, such as health care, etc. So it is proper to classify the country as socialist. President Chavez is certain a heavy-handed
ruler, power grabbing ruler. However, the government of Venezuela is nothing like the Communist government of North Korea.

Hugo Chavez must get the approval of a democratically elected National Assembly before he can do anything. Yes, his personal ideology may be socialist, but Venezuela still has a democratic system.

Remember, Barak Obama nationalized General Motors. Shall we say Obama is acting like Chavez and Stalin too?
