America Behind in Math and Science

The news isn't surprising, as anyone who shows enthusiasm for math or science is mocked. People assume such students are arrogant, dorky, teacher's pets, and show-offs. Nobody wants to be seen as good at math in order to look cool.

Isn't that a shame? Be nice to that nerd in your class. He may be your boss one day.

It's in human nature to want to tear down somebody who seems larger. Some people call it "hating" and those who practice it "haters". However, at times it seems ridiculous, as showing enthusiasm for math shouldn't get you labeled as stupid dork. Note, the same enthusiasm in other courses would be encouraged by peers.
