Something I have been saying for quite awhile actually. Makes me wonder how much of my share went to rebuild schools and roads in Iraq, when my community struggles to pay for both.
The difference though, is that the Iraq community already paid for schools and roads, and likely paid a much higher price, both in being abused by a tyrannical dictator, and with higher fees and prices from an oppressive government. That's opposed to Alaska where the population get's a free hand out from the state government every year.
Their community struggled much more than yours. We merely replaced what was destroyed during our removal and subsequent stability of Iraq.
That said, the total construction cost for Iraq, for the entire year, is about $970 Million. Not even a billion dollars. Since outlays are $3.227 Trillion, that $970 Million would be roughly... 0.0003% of expenses. So if you paid $3,000 to the Federal government, roughly $0.09 went to construction of Iraqi schools and roads.
What's more interesting to me, is that congress stuck in a special expenditures for things not even related to either Iraq or construction. $415 Million went to Walter Reed. That's a government run hospital that was in such bad shape, it made national headlines, and of course politics makes it a priority. Can't wait for that same socialist system to be effecting all hospitals. Socialism... it
always fails.
Also, there's another $112 Million for California. Just... California. No qualifiers. Looks like a political kick back to me. Why would they randomly have $112 million set aside for California in a bill on construction in Iraq and Afghanistan?
