WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) - Police are seeking information about three briefcases with attached handwritten signs that were left outside an Ohio office of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner's (BAY'-nur). The briefcases were demolished by a bomb squad as a precaution.
West Chester Township police say the cases found Sunday morning appeared to have been meant as a political statement. Each had a single handwritten sign. One read "Jobs," the second "Oil" and the third "Gas." There was nothing dangerous inside them.
Police say they don't have any suspects and are working with Boehner's office.
The district office has been the site of several protests about various issues in recent weeks.
Boehner spokeswoman Brittany Bramell says that investigators' "vigilance and efforts" are appreciated, but she declined Monday to discuss details of the incident and investigation.
