An unpopular (in this forum) view of the GOP that needs to be faced

What's wrong with old German's Mark? Sure seems to be doing just fine as the Euro against the Dollars!

And, the point is that there is LOTS of money in the US. . .it is just all going to the top .5%. . . So, why ask those who live on poverty or close to poverty income to pay more taxes, and to get cuts on all the programs that keep them from starving like 3rd world countries citizens while the top .5% gets wealthier on THE WORK OF THE MIDDLE CLASS every year?

Face it. . .it is the MIDDLE CLASS and the poor that make the economy work or fail! Because they don't have the luxury to send their "extra income " oversea. . .they have to spend it right here on NECESSITIES.

Please go back and look at the "velocity of money," and see what $1 of tax break (or unemployment, or food stamps) do to the economy, compared to the same $1 given to the wealthy!

OBVIOUSLY the policies of the Bush era didn't work for the economy, since it is clear that the $ LOST against most currencies during that period! Now the $ is a little higher than in 2006 to 2008 against the Euro. . .but it is a combination of NEW policies by the Obama government AND the weakness created in Europe by the fiasco of the 2008 crisis provoked by Bush's policies!

All those figures are readily available for all to see. . .but I am tired of posting them and never getting a reply that doesn't consist at "poopooing" it, and refusing to see the reality.

Obviously those countries who loan to the US are not as worried as the Republicans about our deficits, since they continue to loan money at a very preferential rate!

And, by the way, there is a clause in the constitution that specifically addresses debts incured even BEFORE the establishment of the constitution and forced us to repay our debts. So, by trying to refuse to raise the debt limit, which would force us to default on our debts, the GOP would throw the Constitution (which seems to be their bible) to the trash.

Keep on worrying about your "right to bear arms" in the second amendment, but ignore the clause in the Constitution that obliged us to pay EVEN the debts we had PRIOR to the establishment of this constitution!

That makes a LOT of sense!

are you suggesting that we could tax the rich out of this ?

you really need to give up on hysterics over social issues and pay more attention to reality.

we cannot tax our way out of this.

OMG..and still they won't talk about spending... Republicans unhappy with tax increases, are likely to be further displeased that the Senate agreement fails to actually deal with spending—something Minority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged yesterday when asking GOP Senators to vote for the bill despite its failure to address spending cuts...THE PROBLEM IS SPENDING

I would also like you to consider the deficit of today versus the deficit of 4 years ago, and note that it has gone down EACH YEAR since Obama took office. Also, that the biggest deficit ever recorded was in 2009, a year that was "budgeted" by the Bush administration, not Obama.

You may also like to look at the deficits over the years, ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION.

i downloaded the budget info from the White Housr site and while the deficit dropped roughly 120b from 2009 to 2010 its gone up since. considering 2009 included the 800b porkulous so the perm increase is 480 b. and the most recent projections are for trillion plus for the foreseeable future

Yes, it is.
And, if the Republicans get their way, it will go down as much as 0.8%. Wow, what a savings!

if they dont raise the debt limit they could knock well over a trillion off THIS year ! that would be progress we could believe in.
And that will happen, mark my words, it will happen.

Right after this:

The article posted in the OP is typical left wing journalism that lefties find truthful. It is anything but truthful. Essentially the author laments that the Speaker is unable to control his caucus....apparently he is supposed to beat the shit out of House Rs so they bend over for BO and the Ds...and this the author considers leadership. What a bunch of bullshit, but lefties find it believable.

The R party is nothing if it won't promote it's essential values of low taxation, smaller government, and low spending. As such, the party has proven itself wanting. It really should disband altogether, but that does not mean let the stinking Ds (really commies) have everything they want. The Ds have gotten just about everything they want for the past 50 years and look want has resulted.

We need a real two party system or no parties at all.

not a journalist author is a college professor. note the total absense of impartiality.

not that there are many "journalists" that do better. easy to confuse.

Sure! And then what do you do with the first great depression of the 21st century?

You guys are just so unrealistic!

Why didn't you show your concern in 2001, and refuse to spend billions we didn't have in a worthless war based on lies, and why were you so pleased with the bush tax cut to benefit mostly the wealthy,

isn't it time for you to grow up and face reality?

What is CERTAIN, is that you cannot get juice out of a dry turnip!

You can't set out of this with cuts alone, and I have NEVER suggested that we could get out of this with taxing alone!

But history shows that the only thing that triggers economic growth (which would raise revenue the painless way) is to keep the economy going. . . And NOT austerity programs.

Until the economy gets back to a HEALTHY levle, you need to get money where it is. . . And it is NOT with the poor or the lower middle class!

IT os with the wealth accumulated over the last 12 years by the wealthiest among us.

Ad by cutting unnecessay programs and getting "austerity programs " in areas that will NOT impede the economy and kill the meagre safety net we have so painfully developed over the years. Let's cut CORPORATE welfare and tax loop holes for the wealthy.

Let's limit the gap between the average worker in a corporation and the top management to 1 to 200, instead of the current 1:400, and if you don't want to impose limitations of that kind on earnings, let's taxe any income above that 1:200 ratio at 80%.

And we all saw the consequences of the political games played by the GOP 2 years ago with the death limit: a credit down grade!

So. . .you would be fine with keeping the USA from meeting its debts, and joining the third world countries.

Yep! A very patriotic (and stupid) thing to do

And your rant is nothing more than Right wing sour grapes.

But I was expecting this from many in this forum. . . .I'm surprise that you are one of the only one spewing venom and stupid rethoric about it.

I guess you feel that YOUR opinion is more "informed" and that your credential are better than this Princeton Professor? I guess you believe that Princeton is a nest of viper for "Leftist" theory? So funny!

failure to seriously address our spending problem will result in depression. so do we waste more money we have to print to achieve the same end ? drunks always want one more for the road too.
