3D printing: Now it can produce teeth!

Werbung:
Not sure why that would be a good idea....we can already produce a crown for posterior teeth in the office in about 15 minutes from a ceramic material that is not only plenty strong, but aesthetic enough to look like actual teeth. 3D printing has some fine applications in dentistry but the idea of multiple nozzles producing a tooth with realistic color graduations from the incised edge to the gingiva is perhaps a bit much at this stage in the technology...and I doubt that we be making teeth with roots like those in the picture ever....the shape of roots is fine for natural growth but the shape would need to be entirely different if you wanted to get bone to regrow to it such that it would actually stay in place. The surface of the tooth in the pic is awful rough also...literal plaque magnet. Teeth have to be extremely smooth.. It will be a while before a 3D printer will be able to produce a model anything like smooth enough to go in the mouth....

The technology is not practical if it requires more work to make a unit that can actually be implanted than the present technology...the bit about the plastic being anti microbial is just hype as well...bacteria already don't attack ceramic....or gold, or even the light cure plastics...it is living tissue that bacteria go after and the idea that just having that bit of plastic in your mouth is going to make your mouth bacteria free is not very believable....
