100 years ago today, on June 16, 1911, four companies merged together in New York to form a new company, and adopted the name "Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation".

Thirteen years later they changed the name to International Business Machines, or IBM.

Hey, didn't some Republican do something 100 years ago today that PFOS could "compare" to something a dem is being condemned for today?

A lot has changed in the past century. This is from a little bit longer ago than that, but not much:

The average life expectancy was 47 years.

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average wage in 1907 was 22 cents per hour.

Ah, yes, the good old days!

Also about a hundred years ago was the birth of "progressivism" - the roots of most of the problems in our country today. Since the word "liberal", itself hijacked by the left long ago, has come into such disrepute, some leftwingers are trying to revive "progressive" to describe themselves. "Progress" in their mind is the endless growth of taxes, regulations, and everything else about the state.

If that is correct, how in the world did our nation ever survive?

Less intrusive, in-your-face, government. Then you had liberty and freedom. Now you've got Big Brother and Taxes!

IBM was the subject of a long anti-trust suit.

I was in the computer industry for 30 years ( 1972 - 2005 ) and they had a policy of driving competitors out of business by selling items below cost until there was no opposition, especially in the mid-range minicomputer field, then raising the price.

Last time I looked, their profit was bigger than the turnover of Microsoft.

IBM is also famous, or notorious, depending on how much you gained ( or most probably lost) a few years ago, for the invention of the finance swap in 1981
