Trouble in Afghanistan

This really does bother me. If this were Iraq I could at least understand it, but it's Afghanistan. The war there is led by NATO, and there's no disagreement about the Taliban's involvement with bin Laden and al Qaeda. There's as much a threat to Europe as the U.S. (if not more), and the reason they won't get involved is because they're afraid of feeling political pressure at home for sending soldiers in?
