Theists and Atheists

I still do not know what can be done to eliminate endless conflicts between theists and atheists. But comments collected at several websites prompted me to compose a short on-line paper at:

http://pages.csam.montclair.edu/~kowalski/theo_sci.html

It can probably be used to initiate an interesting discussion here. Please share this link with those who might be interested.

The atheist I know or have know really don't care much about God or about being against any thing religious. They are mostly apathetic. I do not see conflict coming from them.

The religious people I know also are to busy being religious to care.

The problem occurs when anti-theists and more strong minded religious people but heads.

But these problems occur whenever any people (not just anti theist and religious) disagree strongly and it is human nature for strife to result.

If they banned religion from schools, refused it input into any legal or social issues and disestablished the church, then there would be no debate. Atheists would just pity the poor deluded idiots.

But christians stick their unwanted beaks into all sorts of stuff like abortion and stem cell research with their bigoted pernicious lies.

So they should expect strong opposition and it is the responsible duty of atheists to expose the BS of religion whenever possible so that more and more people see the light

I'm an Atheist... we do not oppose Theism, we just do not believe in God or religion. Anti-Theists also do not believe in God or religion but the difference is, Anti-Theists oppose religion - and tend to do so in the most hateful and bigoted ways imaginable.

Why shouldn't you hate religion?

I bet the 800,000 or so who were burned to death in the name of religion could give a good answer

Or maybe the homosexuals who are vilified, attacked and killed in the name of religion

Or the thousands of AIDS babies in Africa who are in their sorry state because the Pope told their parents taht condoms are evil

Yoyu'd have to be mentally ill not to hate religion.

You give atheism a bad name

Meridian-Webster defines "atheist" as: one who believes that there is no deity

Meridian-Webster defines "agnostic" as: a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god

Now, as we all know definitions and terminology change over time. For instance the definition of the word "gay". I believe the word agnostic better suits those peaceful non-believers who simply do not believe in a deity, as M-W suggest. However, to expand on that definition, they do not care if you believe there is a diety or not, either.

Here is where the difference is. Atheism is really an anti-Christian hate group. True, they do not believe there is a deity, but they also actively seek to squelch the 1st Amendment Right to freely practice "specifically" Christianity in this Country. These atheist groups such as the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) are not out there protesting and suing Islamic groups, Buddhist groups, or even Jewish groups. They, the "atheists", are solely focused on Christian groups, Christian rights, customs, and holidays.

No, ...atheists are not peaceful, non-believers. If they were peaceful, non-believers then they would be called agnostic. Atheists are an anti-American hate group who are also political activists that seek to end the 1st Amendment Rights of all Christians in this country. Their hate is always obvious in their comments because it spills over in ways that actively demonstrate anti-Christian tendencies. You can see this in some of the members of this forum.

Most of us "normal" independent thinking Americans support the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution. I do not care if you believe or not. I do not care if you worship or not. I do care about your right in this Country to do so, or not! Atheist do not. They are clearly anti-American and full of hate and seek to destroy your religious freedom in this Country, especially if you are Christian.

Do not be fooled through your own tolerance or support of the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution. Atheist are politically active and the enemy to the American people and way of life. Their own hate has clearly lead them astray, not only spiritually but, also as a patriot!

Christians Carry a 12-Ft Cross for Miles to Protest Atheists’ Lawsuit Over TN Water Tower Cross

It was a classic, run-of-the-mill church versus state tale. Christians posted a cross on a Whiteville, Tennessee, town water tower. Atheists saw the cross and threatened the town with legal action. Then, the town’s mayor, refusing to take it down but unable to afford a costly legal battle, chopped off one of its arms, no longer making it a symbol of faith. The last time we reported on the drama, we assumed the matter had been settled. Unfortunately, we were wrong, as the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has now filed a federal lawsuit against the town and the cross.

Atheist are not just non-believers. That would be an agnostic. Atheist are an anti-American hate group whom seek to destroy everyone's 1st Amendment right in this Country.

All Theocrats believe in God, that belief in God is shared by all Christians, therefore all Christians support an American Theocracy and are enemies of the Constitution... That's the same logical fallacy you've applied to the argument equating Athiesm with Anti-Theism.

An American Theocracy? Really???? That bit of idiotic spin does not even merit a response ......

You missed his point. His point is you claimed ALL atheists are anti-Christian. When in fact, many are not anti-Christian. Yes there is a movement among atheists which is full of hate for Christians and they are doing all they can to make America a non-Christian secular nation. But, many atheists are not part of this hateful intolerant movement.

Yes, I understood his point. There is no evidence whatsoever that Christians in this Country want an American Theocracy. In fact, the far majority of Christians in this Country adamantly support the US Constitution. In contrast, the atheists in this Country are everyday proving themselves to be against the US Constitution by filing lawsuit after lawsuit to obstruct all Christians all over this Country from practicing their faith.

The definition for many words and symbols have changed over time. For instance, such words as feminism or gay. Obviously these words mean something different today other than their original definition. Some definitions are still strongly disputed, such as the symbol of the Confederate Flag, but nonetheless, these words and symbols have changed for better or for worse in the minds of many Americans.

Atheist is the same. It has been redefined by a radical hate group of anti-Americans who active seek to destroy the 1st Amendment Rights of all Americans, especially those of the Christian faith. Their activism has changed the definition of what it is to be atheist in the minds of most Americans today.

As I pointed out in my comment above, a peaceful "non-believer" is better defined today as an agnostic. Atheism in America today is viewed in the minds of many as a politically active anti-American hate group.

Yes, the US is a great Christian country

Huge murder rate
Huge poverty
Huge love of money
Huge output of hardcore porn
Huge war mongering against non threatening nations
Massive self indulgence
Obsession with fame and appearance
Committed genocide against the natives
Institutionally racist

Yes, you wouldn't want this Christian country to change would you?

That would be the Anti-Theists. They are easily spotted as being different from an actual Atheist as the Anti-Theist will always be hateful and viscious towards religion and religious people.
But, many atheists are not part of this hateful intolerant movement.
Actual Atheists can't stand the fact that Anti-Theists refuse to refer to themselves as being such but instead muddy the waters by calling themselves Atheists, it causes people to confuse the two and not recognize a very significant difference.
