fighter air craft are not out of date they severe a mulita function role like the f22s f35s and f16 in Iran where they clobbered the missile and radar systems in IRAN Syria and Lebanon . Now satellites have made surprise naval attacks impossible. And of course, there are undersea drones as well. The US has most of the world's carriers. They are useful these days for shelling locations on land. Large naval battles as there were in WWII have not happened since 1945.
