Socialism and communism are quite different.
Communism favors a Dictatorship of the Proletariat, which means that the means of production (factories, utilities, processing plants) belong to the state and are run by cooperatives elected by the workers from their ranks. Full employment is a major goal. Once people get used to this arrangement, the central administration will no longer be required and it will wither away. It depends on changing human nature.
Democratic Socialism involves the government being elected in free and fair election and then those elected decide with consultation from their constituents about which arrangements of industries should be under government control and which should be privately owned and controls. Typically, natural monopolies such as utilities (water, electricity, heating oil and gas, mail delivery, libraries, telephones and internet are administered by governments, ideally local ones. The goal is for the benefits of industries to be equitably distributed among the citizens rather than to allow a handful of old men to hoard half or more of the resources.
Religion is to be separated from the state and all sects are allowed with the understanding that they must never attempt to dominate the government or one another.
Capitalism is not a system of government, it is a technique to amass capital from multiple sources with limited liability. If it is allowed to dominate a society, it causes the wealth to be concentrated in a few individuals. There is no country in which a majority of the population are actual real capitalists, that is, where each person lives off the profits of his/her investments. Most Americans are NOT capitalists and do not understand how the stock markets function.
Under capitalism, food is not produced to feed people. It is produced to make a profit. When it is not profitable to feed people, they are allowed to go hungry or to get by on the surplus agricultural products. In the US corn and corn products are fed to the poor, resulting in obesity diabetes and such.
Traditional American values do NOT consist of the top five percent of the population owning half the wealth of our country.Trump supports traditional American views, values, rights and liberties while democrats are more interested in fundamentally transforming America to be more like atheistic socialist communist nations.
