The 20th century’s battles were along ideological lines. The Cold War was known as the fight between “capitalism” and “communism” and World War II was the battle between “democracy” and “fascism”. The battle lines of the 21st century seem to be all of the modern “-isms” lining up against what’s left of tradition and traditional identities.
