A large part of the State of California standards (what every public school is required to teach) includes "critical thinking skills", which is bureautospeak for teaching things like how to separate fact from opinion, cause and effect, and such logical fallacies as generalizing from a few examples.

 

From two examples, you have concluded that public schools are more about indoctrination than anything else, and yet the admittedly liberal state of California requires that skills that make indoctrination more difficult be taught.
